Of all the combinations I tried this was not one of them... just my usual luck ;-)
One thing that puzzles me is that FSX still not requires me to open port 4506 in my local firewall, I know for sure there I removed those entries manually when I tried different settings.

XP does not have IPv6, unless you have installed it separately.
An address that starts 192.168 is an IPv4 address. An address that starts fe80:: is an IPv6 address. Your xml only specifies IPv4, and so that is what you must use.
The address you need to specify is that of the PC that is running FSX (and hosting Simconnect.xml). Make sure Simconnect.xml is in the same folder as your fsx.cfg (I don't remember where that is in XP)
