Plan-G / Terminal Waypoint Doesn't Display
April 18, 2017, 12:09:44 AM
Here's a headscratcher....

Plan-G Version: 3.1.4.120

Simulator:  FSX-Steam

Airport: KPEO

Waypoint: ZETEX

Waypoint Location: Approach Plate shows it 3.8 NM south of the threshold of Rwy 01 @ KPEO.  SkyVector shows the location as N42°33.76' W77°2.81' or 42.56266666666667, -77.04683333333333; and it lies north of terminal Waypoint AGFUB, which does display in Plan-G.

Looking at the terminal waypoints (blue triangles) for this airport, one of them doesn't display at all in Plan-G, even though Plan-G seems to know it's there.

This airport has nine associated Terminal Waypoints.  Eight of them display properly as blue triangles in Plan-G but ZETEX does not.  The waypoint is in FSX-SE; ADE sees it and displays it in Approach Mode and the Plan-G Intersection search reports it and when selected, centers up the map at the exact correct location, but shows no blue triangle.

In the grand scheme of things this is small potatoes but thought you might be interested enough to run it down.

EDIT:  Never mind - it's designated as an "UNNAMED" waypoint and should be a "NAMED" type.  When I check the box on the map for unnamed intersections, it shows up.  It's obviously an error in the SE airport file to have it in as that type of waypoint and I suspect that the error originated in FSX and propagated to Dovetail from there.

I hope we learned something - I did.  Am leaving the post up as an example of one of those infamous "Senior Moments".

Peter,

Thanks.  Where is the download link for the new manual?

Not sure if you guys are aware of it or not, but Plan-G will display any jpg or pdf file in a similar manner, the only requirement is that the file name must begin with the airport ICAO code.  If you had approach plates for an airport, for instance, you could rename them as you wish, with the ICAO code at the beginning of each file name and put them in with my charts.  Plan-G will display them in the flyout menu under Charts.

There's a glitch but it's an easy workaround - Plan-G expects to find that text file as a "marker" that it's in the right place but doesn't use it for anything.  Create any old text file with anything or nothing at all in it, name it AllardJD_Readme.txt and put it with the diagrams and Plan-G will be happy.

The text files you are finding when unzipping the country bundles (they'll have the same file name as the zip file but the txt extension) are just documenting what's in the zip file and the update history, etc.  They're mainly a tool for me; Plan-G doesn't need them and if you don't, you can delete them if you wish.  They don't hurt anything by being there, but deleting them won't cause any problems either.

Once Plan-G knows where my files are, right clicking on an airport which has one will have a "Charts" pad on the flyout.  Click that and you'll get another flyout with the name(s) of the applicable file(s) for that airport.

Plan-G / Re: Location of fuel pumps.?
June 28, 2014, 05:44:02 AM
My airport diagrams show fuel pump locations on the field.  They're available at Mutley's Hangar and can be accessed directly from within Plan-G once you have them.  There are diagrams for over 2,800 airports world wide and more being added almost daily.

I've got an ongoing project, posting add-on waypoints for FSX in the File Library at the Mutley's Hangar site.  Currently there are about 2,500 of them and I'm adding more every few days.  The download currently gives you a pair of bgl files to put into FSX and then Plan-G picks them up when you re-build the Plan-G databases.  As the number grows the number of bgls will increase as I have to keep them below 100K each to keep things working - but only two bgl files for now.

Plan-G / Re: Unable to see PDF chart
April 15, 2014, 04:52:16 PM
I have about 2,600 detailed airport diagrams posted at the Mutley's Hangar File Library, both as individual downloads and in "Country Bundles".  They are in jpg format, which Plan-G will display in Version 3.1.  The diagrams are made using FSX data so will often more closely match what you see in FS than real-world charts.  Registration (free) at Mutley's Hangar is required to download.  More are being created daily.  Requests for specific airports are welcome.

Thanks for finding the correct link.  I think you have to be a registered user at MH to get to the file library, so that link worked for me but probably created a problem for others who are not yet members there.

This little project is nothing to compare to Tim's contribution.  I will continue to add waypoints to that post but it's on the back burner right now as I get all my airport diagrams bundled and posted at Mutley's Hangar for use in the new Plan-G v3.1.

The waypoint count is now up to 2,236, available as noted in the post above.

The Reporting Point / Additional Waypoints for FSX
October 22, 2013, 04:02:44 AM
Plan-G Users,

I've begun a project to add real-world waypoints from published aviation charts and documents to FSX and subsequently to Plan-G.  I have added 992 so far and am adding batches of 50-75 more every few days. I'm finding waypoints to add by analyzing randomly selected real-world flight routes and picking out those waypoints that are not already available in stock FSX.

If you enjoy flying with real-world charts and procedures and are running into references to intersections and waypoints that are not in FSX (and thus not in Plan-G), this may improve things over time.

I create a bgl file for FSX, conatining the new named waypoints, which may be either intersections or RNAV/GPS waypoints in the real-world.  Once the bgl file is copied into FSX, rebuilding the Plan-G database has them showing up there as well.  These are not User-defined waypoints in the context of Plan-G, they are named Intersections that show up as the named pink triangles in the Plan-G map.

My waypoints can be downloaded from the File Library at the Mutley's Hangar site.

Mutley's Hangar Forums:

http://forum.mutleyshangar.com/

Waypoints Download page @ Mutley's Hangar:

http://forum.mutleyshangar.com/index.php/files/file/2473-added-fsx-waypoints/

Note that you must be a registered member at Mutley's Hangar (free) and must be logged in to download.  The download file will unzip to...

JDA Added FSX Waypoints.BGL
JDA Added FSX Waypoints - Read Me.TXT
JDA Added FSX Waypoints - Sorted List.TXT

If installed into your FSX installation, the new waypoints will become part of your FSX installation unless or until you get rid of the BGL file. The new waypoints will be visible on the FSX map and in the GPS and may be incorporated into FSX Flight Plans. If used within the active FSX Flight Plan the waypoint(s) will be listed in the NavLog page on the Kneeboard and will be used as waypoints by the GPS.

Each update of the file is cumulative, including the new waypoints and all the previous ones, using the same filename, so a new, cumulative downloaded file will overwrite the older, smaller one.
