Plan-G / Re: DEM Folder
August 25, 2012, 08:46:50 PM
Did you create a folder under "My Documnents/Plan-G Files called DEM? Did you then populate the folder with the appropriate DEM files from http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/topo/gltiles.html. After downloading them you need to "unzip" them and put them in the DEM folder.  Re-start Plan-G, create a simple flight plan. Then, under the "View" tab in Plan-G make sure the "Plan Elevation" is highlighted.

You have to create the DEM folder. Create it in My Documents/Plan-G Files. Put your DEM tiles in that folder.

It seems to me that P-G is looking for the FSX database also. Even though you have not built it, P-G "sees" FSX and is wanting you to build that database before it "allows" access. Tim will have to answer with a work-around if it is available.

Plan-G / Aircraft Trails
May 28, 2011, 01:52:14 PM
Hi Tim,  I have not been around the forum for a while. But I am available again.  I was flying today and decided to turn on aircraft trails. I noticed that when I searched for a trail it took me to Program Files>TA Software>Trails not C:>TA Software, etc. as a default. Of course, there were no trails in the first file. In fact, I did not know it was still there.  Just an FYI.

Plan-G / Re: Precipitation question

Hi Emile,

Yes, -RA = Light Rain.

There are many abbreviations used for weather in aviation for example, BR is another used to describe visibility. It means Mist (think Baby Rain).

When you look at an aviation weather forecast or conditions at an airport (either a METAR, for current conditions that can be up to an hour old, or a TAF for projected conditions up to 24 hours in advance) they are written with many abbreviations.

Quick and dirty translation help can be found at http://www.nws.noaa.gov/oso/oso1/oso12/document/guide.shtml

Plan-G / Re: Convert .plg plans to .pln plans?

Simplicity in itself.

Load the .plg plan into Plan G and then save it as a .pln FS9/X plan.

Look at this then match it to yours if you are indeed using VISTA then the file folder will be there.

Please read the posts as noted in by Skynet. There are several things you must check and do. Most importantly making sure your scenery .cfg files are in the place that Plan-G looks for them. Specifically, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX and not C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX.

If there are files in the second location, it means that you installed them for your use only. In order for Plan-G to work properly, scenery must be installed for "all users".

Also, search the forum for other peculiarities to scenery recognition. 99.9% of the time it has to do with either permissions or locations.

Do you, in fact have FSUIPC installed? And, if so, what version?

It's OK for me also. It does just what it supposed to do.

Plan-G / Re: Running FS in Full-screen mode with Plan-G

Stan,

I'm not sure as I don't run 2 monitors but there is an option for keeping Plan-G on top in the "View" tab. Try that. If I'm wrong Tim will correct me.

Don,
Right-click on the Plan G icon on your desktop. Navigate to Properties-->Advanced  and check Run as Administrator.  If this option is greyed out, you need to add a step before this.

Delete the current icon.  Navigate to your Plan G folder, right-click and drag the Plan-G.exe icon and drop it on your desktop. Select "Create Shortcut Here" from the menu. Now follow the steps above.

Tom,

Please zip the log file and post it here for Tim to look at. The log is in your Plan G folder and is Plan-G_Log.txt

Plan-G / Re: When setting up network

Tom,
Please see the manual beginning at page 88. The manual can be found at the File Tab -->Help -->User Manual. There is a very detailed explanation of how to set the network up with SimConnect.
