Plan-G / Building Database across network
March 28, 2010, 07:46:46 PM
Hi,
I have FSX one one PC and PlanG on another connecte on a local network. PlanG and FSX are connected via SimConnect and work fine except that, despite having the correct path to the FSX scenery cfg set in PlanG, I cannot build the FSX database.
Is there a workaround I can use ?

Hi,

Connection via your router is the easist and best way Monir.
Most routers these days have at least 4 connections. OS doesn'matter. You just need to run the Windows Network set up wizard for each pc.

I do not understand why you would need to repair FSX.
I run Plan_G on a client pc which does not have FSX installed. It is just a matter of having the correct version of SimConnect installed on the client machine. My problem simply arose because different builds of Plan_G required different versions of SimConnect. the problem is now sorted.

Monir,

Sorry but I wasn't suggesting that you go out and buy another pc just to run Plan_G. Many people have an older PC as a result of upgrading or perhaps even an old laptop, The PC does not need to be anything very fancy so for anyone in this situation it would be a "no cost" optiom, perhaps even cheaper than Tim's gaffer tape.  ;D

Hi ,

As Monir has accurately reported in his post here, Tim's planner is pretty intuitive and an hour or two spent hands on will soon have you up and running. Nearly everything is described by hovering your mouse over the particular icon and right clicking will present a list of available options. Cliicking the globe icon will open the main options/settings menus.

By the way Monir, if you have another networked PC availableyou can set up Plan_G to run on that machine and then run FSX in full screen mode on the main pc.

Hi,

Because of the way the service packs operate, a repair of FSX is not recommended. It could cause more problems than it fixes.

OK Tim , sorted.
I think you may have been right about the dynamic IP address. I hace changed the configs to use computer name instead and everything now works fine.

I am having  problems running Plan_G across my network.
The connect to FSX button is active but when I click on it I get a pop up window  "Cannot connect to SimConnect (Is FSX running/)

Hi Tim

User rights not a problem but I am using W7.
There is a bug with FSX scenery library and W7 which I think could be causing the problem. Iwill investigate further and report back on the testers site.

Thanks Tim,
I seem to have identified the source of the problem.
My scenery cfg (the one used by the fsx scenery library is C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\ scenery.cfg.
The one being scanned by Plan-G is C:\Users\Rod\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\

Any thoughts?

Plan-G / Building Database

Great looking program Tim, wee done.

First query from me re building the airport database. At first sight it seems that only the FSX default airport files have been scanned. I have UK2000 and other airports installed  on a seperate Addon Scenery drive which don't appear to have been added to the database. Is there a way of acheiving this ?
