Plan-G / Plan-G, X-Plane 10 and NaviGraph data
April 04, 2017, 09:02:04 PM
I'm using Plan-G 3.1.3.109 with Win10, FSX and X-Plane 10.51r2

Recently I subscribed to NaviGraph for updated FMC/GPS data and used the Automatic updater from NaviGraph to update both FSX and X-Plane 10.  I rebuilt both the FSX and the X-Plane 10 databases for Plan-G and after landing at HAAB, I happened to toggle between the FSX data and the XP10 data on the Plan-G map.

There are two parallel runways at HAAB 07L/25R and 07R/25L.  Both have ILS approaches but only one shows in the XP10 data while both are shown in the FSX data and also on the EFASS map.  So for some reason, all the data is (apparently) not being read into XP10.  I would not expect current NaviGraph data to be so different between the two sims.  Any ideas?  Is Plan-G missing some of the new NaviGraph data in XP10, and if so, is there any way to have it included?  Am I doing something wrong or have I overlooked something?

I am using X-Plane 11 with Plan-G without problems so far.  If I remember correctly I did not re-run the Plan-G database build when I fired up XP11, so running old XP10 data like Tim said.
I have been unable to run Plan-G with XP11.  What did you do to get it to work?  I'm using XPUIPC 2.0.0.0.6 (the current version).  Strange that it won't work.  I know the XP11 scenery is "different" so Plan-G probably cannot "read" it, but it should work fine with XP10 scenery.

X-Plane 10 works just fine with Plan-G but I am not able to get XP11 to show up on Plan-G.  Something is different.  I'm using XPUIPC 2.0.0.0.6 I think it is.

The data used in X-Plane 11 is different from X-Plane 10 -- much more information and in a different location and format.  I believe it is consistent with NaviGraph data format (at least you can use NaviGraph updates).

Not a complaint.  Put it on the wish list.   :)

Plan-G / Re: Data Build freezes at reading runways

That did it.  Thanks, Tim !!  I thought it was some "bad" Custom Scenery I loaded. :)

Apologies, I didn't catch the other thread on this problem with an earlier beta version of XP 10.40.  I'm downloading 3.1.3 test and will try in the morning.

Plan-G / Data Build freezes at reading runways
July 18, 2015, 05:01:21 PM
v3.1.2.101 (Win 7,8 download) on a new machine, Win 8.1, X-Plane 10.40b5

Plan-G installs and displays the map.  Path is correct (otherwise the database builder wouldn't begin).  When I run the database builder it reads apt.dat but then it freezes at reading runways.  Any idea how to trouble-shoot this?  I'm seeing the runways on the map before I run the builder but no navaids or other features are displayed and the runway read never finishes.  (i7-4790K w/ 32GB RAM ran overnight).  I have hundreds of custom scenery files installed so I'm sure there are issues there.  How can I determine which one is blocking?  X-Plane loads and runs normally and log.txt gives me no clue.

FOLLOW UP for Plan-G in Win 8.1

I used the Windows 8.1 uninstaller to again remove Plan-G 3.1.2.101 from my computer (4TB E:\ drive) where it has lived happily for months and where I reinstalled it attempting to get it working again.  I did not use RevoUninstaller this time to remove trash in the registry, but I don't think that was a factor - just being as detailed as I can.

I then ran the Windows updater and found an "optional" update of some kind that had not been installed as one of the "recommended" updates.

I then reinstalled Plan-G, this time putting it on my SSD (C:\) and it is working - I'm rebuilding my X-Plane database as I type this.

SO...two possible solutions.  The "optional" Win 8.1 updates (KB3013769 or Intel Management Engine Interface) might have been a "fix" for some problem in a previous Win 8.1 update,

OR...putting Plan-G on the C:\ drive enabled Plan-G to "find" necessary .NET Framework files needed to run.

I'm not a programmer, but I'm an "advanced" user familiar with getting around the file system.  If it would help you to have a dump of my OS failure log, I'd be happy to send it.  On the other hand, it is working again after a very mysterious failure, so perhaps the solution(s) are sufficient.

Thanks again for a fantastic program.  I hope this helps others.

Plan-G / Re: Plan-G won't work after Win 8.1 updates

Thanks, Tim.  What is totally strange is that I've used it (since I built the new computer in late November) and it has worked for months with no problems.  I use it as a full screen toggle with X-Plane 10.35 and link it with XPUIPC which works (worked) beautifully.  My OS is running on an SSD but both Plan-G and XP are running from a huge 4TB HD.  Plan-G appears to be loading but never shows the map screen before it crashes with a windows warning.  I have installed a few new files into X-Plane but the only thing that is "new" on the computer (which is more of less a dedicated simming computer) are the daily checks for Windows Defender updates.  I disabled WD and no joy.  There is no other AV running on the computer as I don't use it to access the internet except for weather and updates from Microsoft.

I uninstalled Plan-G using RevoUninstaller which also purges registry entries (if any).  I tried re-installing it from the original download file (which I keep on a backup disk).  No difference.  The only thing I can think to do now is to uninstall it again, remove all .plg and .fmc flightplans and try installing it on the SSD to see if there is some new security "fix" that Microsoft has added that is blocking access to the OSM data or blocking access to the .Net files over on the SSD.  I'll report back later when I have time to try again.

Plan-G / Plan-G won't work after Win 8.1 updates
April 19, 2015, 07:52:21 PM
I've been running Plan-G v.3.1.2.101 now for many weeks on my Windows 8.1 computer with no problems of any kind.  This morning it will not load and the only thing I've changed is the routine Windows 8.1 updates that I run every morning before I load any apps.  I uninstalled Plan-G and reinstalled it.  Same problem.  I get a small window that simply says "Plan-G has stopped working."  I do see the "spash screen" and the flight plan window momentarily but the map window does not load and the whole thing disappears leaving the window.

Has Microsoft done something in the past day to screw things up???

Plan-G / Re: Build 50

Just some feedback here, FWIW.

I had 3.0.0.46 which built the FSX database properly, but it would "hang" on the X-Plane 10 database build, so I just used FSX data for my X-Plane flights.  I'm using XPUIPC for the connect link to X-Plane by the way.

I uninstalled 3.0.0.46 using RevoUninstaller and then did a complete installation of 3.0.1.50.  FSX database build went fine, but the subsequent X-Plane build hung during work on the airways requiring a Ctrl-Alt-Del into Task Manager to kill Plan-G.  Upon restart, I noticed that the data display chosen in the menu was still checked as FSX (which had been active during the X-Plane database build attempt), so I switched the display to X-Plane and then ran the database build for X-Plane successfully.  That may have no bearing on database build problems, but it's worth passing along.
