Plan-G / Re: FSX Crashes
September 12, 2011, 06:36:03 PM
Many thanks for all of your replies, I have downloaded that particular files as suggested and have stored it for (unhopefully) future use.  To get round the complete problem of this mess, I have installed a new hdd in the system and done a complete fresh install of Windows 7 and of course all of my FSX and all of those other lovely programs that I previously had. However to get my scenery library back to it's original state is going to take about another two weeks or so, to find and download all of that scenery that I use to have, around 125Gb worth, and nearly all freeware.  Then of course to sit back and watch Plan-G rebuild it's database and update the waypoints, is going to be so much fun.

Plan-G / Re: FSX Crashes
September 05, 2011, 05:02:53 PM
Sorry I have not responded before now, it now transpires that I have an erroneous entry in the registry of ab (default) Reg_SZ No value set, and this entry is driving me nuts. I have tried nearly every trick in the book to get rid of these entries in the Registry and all to no avail, only caused more problems with the computer. It left me with only one option and that was a total reinstall of everything that was being caused by an earlier problem of a corrupt ntdll.dll file, however what is interesting is that this erroneous error in the registry is not being picked up by any registry cleaner, of which I have tried several. And the problem that it is causing, is not allowing me ( as administrator) to put programs to the hard drive that I would like to put them to, it will only put everything onto the C: drive which is not where I would like to put FSX and others, notably FTX. It is not even allowing the self installers to offer the option box to put programs to the drive that I would like. The corrupt ntdll.dll files could not be repaired or swapped over from another machine to run correctly without causing FSX and Plan-G to either total crash or total freeze thereby causing a reboot to regain control, this was a total pain in the rear to have to do and lose everything I was either working o or flying to and from. Still if I could not keep my chin up over these problems and stay somewhat cheerful then I would be throwing the damn thing out the window in frustration. And they keep telling me that flight simming is fun, try smiling sweetly after the fourth or fifth time of a total reinstall of everything from before the problem.  Speak to you soon  Myk

Plan-G / FSX Crashes
August 25, 2011, 04:47:58 PM
Tim and et al,  If I please ask a question of Plan-G and FSX, can you tell me if anyone has reported an FSX crash and freeze of Plan-G being caused by a faulty/corrupt ntdll.dll file connected to the fsx.exe.  It has happened to my system three times in a row. And I do not seem to find a fix for the problem anywhere, and the only info I can find goes back to 2005-7 which is only relating to windows xp, which is not helpful when I am running windows 7 64bit. Many thanks in advance as to your reply.   MykV

Plan-G / Plan-G on opening
July 16, 2011, 09:27:50 PM
Tim and et al,  I have come across a small issue that it is now starting to bug me. When I have opened FSX + FSInn +Teamspeak, I then use the desktop icon for Plan-G to open, however on the first try of opening it hangs and I then have to close it down via Task Manager closing the process. This can actually happen three or four times, before it opens correctly and always opens connected to FSX. I have tried un-installing and reinstalling three times but the situation is still the same. Any thoughts would be gratefully recieved, cheers for now  MykV

Plan-G / Re: Script Running Slowly
January 25, 2011, 01:24:38 PM
Tim and et al, I noticw in your reply to this post, that you state that Plan-G has to use IE. If this is the case could the fact that I use Mozilla for all web use is also causing my Plan-G to run slowly at start up, and to the fact that sometimes I have to threaten it with a Control/Alt/Delete function before the map will load correctly. I have made sure that the .exe is set to run as Administrator and that the main program is not in my programs group but in my documents group. I do not however get @script running slowly' messages but I have had a couple of @other programs are causiing a conflict and Plan-G has to close. The other thing that is very interesting is, I run Plan-G on my second monitor to the right, and the Minimise/Maximise/Close functions do not work, I have to close the program from the task bar.

Plan-G / Re: Map, Data and view buttons don't work
December 04, 2010, 05:05:32 PM
If I could input my two penny worth please, one of our members also downloaded Plan-G, BUT he ran the MSI installer and had the same button problems and non-functionality of the map.. When advised to uninstall Plan-G and re-install and run the setup.exe, this cured his problems. Now wether this is a fault of Windows or Plan-G, I do not know but this fix worked for him and one other. Hopes this helps someone.   And Tim and et al, it is going into everybody's computer, that can be told about Plan-G's and I have not heard of one bad report of it. Again very well done   MykV

Well now what can be said about V2, I think the only real comment I can make at this stage is ABSOLUTELY FRI**ING AWESOME.  What a vast improvement over the older version. This is going to have me playing for hours and days yet to come. And I can say at this time, No Problems.
Can I please say Tim and et al "Bloody Well Done ".

Tim  Could I please prevail upon you to add a link to the BristolFlightSimGroup.org on your web site. I notice a link to the CIX Group so wondered if you could please do the same for ourselves.  And it's OK I did ask PeterA and et al first before contacting you. Many thanks in anticipation   MykV

Tim and the Team,

I have only just now come across your Blog of 23rd September 2010 to do with some LOW LIFE putting Plan-G out to torrent. I really would/will support you in any action you deem fit to do to this cretin, I really do hope that you do not think or feel that the vast majority of us flightsimmers would even contemplate such thought or action. You and the others have put a long time and dedication into getting Plan-G to the state and function that it is today, and I for one would very upset and angered that the mindless action of one cretinous individual would cause you to feel that you should pack it all in. I am aware that there is someway of being able to track this low life down and will/would wish you every success in doing so, it is such a pity that our corner of this hobby has this problem, rearing it's ugly head for so many of the good people of this hobby/calling of ours far too often. As a member of the Bristol Flight Sim Group GA group, I use Plan-G every week to make flight plans for the group and to use it's functionality to do all manner of other things, and to lose this excellent tool for this purpose because of the unfathomable action of one cretin would be unthinkable.  So Tim and et al, you have my full support and sympathy. And if there is any way that myself or the group can assist you, please do not hesitate to ask.

Plan-G / Re: G-plan killing frames
July 10, 2010, 04:21:25 PM
Sorry to add to this Tim, but even I have a drop in frame rates when connected to flightsim via simconnect. I only have, as overlays, lge, med, small airports, VOR's, NDB's, Lower and ICAO airspace, airstrips, disused, obstacles,VRP's. Generally run Plan-G at zoom level 10 in terrain mode and have found at this level, I have a frame rate drop of between 5-15 fps. Very rarely get error messages or script messages and generally Plan-G runs sweetly.
My system is Core2Duo 6400 at 2.13Ghz, 4Gb RAM DDR2 , Nvidia 9500GT 1024Mb Graphics Card, 2 monitors,Windows 7  64bit, .NET Framework 4, and I  usually fly with Main FSX screen windowed on main screen and teamspeak, fsinn cp, aircraft instrument panels and Plan-G on the second screen. Generally am getting variable fps, sometimes as low as five-15, another time it will be 12-30, and can also some times have 20-70 all this in the default Baron B58 at Bristol Int. west apron stationary, but when I take off the frames will rise to twice what they were on the ground and this is whilst Plan-G is not running. Start Plan-G after spawning at Bristol and the fps is down to single figures stationary, and only rising to around the 14-20 mark after take-off, and this is only occurring in the UK with photoscenery, fly default anywhere else in the world and the frame rates are twice what they are in the UK, eg in Australia I am getting fps in excess of 30+ without Plan-G, engage Plan-G and this will be cut to approx half. I am only really finding a big difference when flying over the UK photoscenery, but my flightsim is running smoothly most of the time, so the drop does not bother me too much.
However when Plan-G is open and running with FSX, if I am pointing towards any extremely built up areas of airports, cities, or even woods, then I can watch my flightsim drop down to a crawl in single figures of between 1 -9 and the flightsim starts to stutter, turn off Plan-G and the fps usually stays above single figures for the same flight.
And there is no difference to this issue in either Simconnect or FSUIPC for my system. But I would love to know what the issue is that is causing it.    Cheers for now   Myk
