Plan-G / Slow script error message.
August 11, 2010, 12:21:50 PM
Tim,

I have recently had trouble with this message appearing every time I zoom, or try to move the map by dragging.  On the RTFM principle I consulted your FAQs and there found the fix that is available from Microsoft.  I applied the fix, and it certainly fixed it.  Plan-G would not work atall.   It opened with the message that it could not open the Google map.  The message proposed four possible solutions which I could not even understand, never mind activate.  So that was the end of that.

I decided that I would have to uninstall, reinstall, and accept the slow script messages.

I had installed the database for FSX, and it was open on the screen whilst I ran the database for FS9.  I was thinking of the note in your FAQ that the plan might have to write hundreds of thousands of items when I zoomed.   For the first time it dawned on me that when I zoom a little bit of England I am actually zooming every part of the world even though I can't see it.

The thought occurred to me that perhaps I might reduce  the load in some way.  At that point my eye fell on the FSX map that was still showing and I realised that it was strewn with waypoints, by the hundred.  These waypoints are primarily for IFR traffic, and as you know I am now primarily a VFR pilot.  I remembered from watching Plan-G load that there are over 100,000 such waypoints in FSX and 87,000 in FS9, and I don't need them.

I went into the Map Setting menu of both sims, and unchecked the "named waypoints" item.

The problem is completely solved.  The writing of maps after zooming is virtually instantaneous and I hope never to see that "slow script" message again.

I hope this may be helpful .

Plan-G / Re: Plan-G won't Load.

Success !!  The Flight 1 file did the trick and I now have both FS9 and FSX data loaded.

Many thanks again.

I speak it in a whisper,  but at this moment everything in my FS set-up works as it should.   Fingers crossed !

Progress is being made !   I ran Uniblue Registry booster in my C HD which is separate from D.  It found a huge number of errors and corrected them.

FSX data duly loaded.   The FS9 data icons remain dead and I can't load FS9 Data.   I went into FS9 and when I connected It said you are using FS9, but with FSX data, and then rather confusingly "Please load FSX data".

I'm not really bothered because I can run both sims on the FSX data.

Many thanks for you help, as usual !

Tim,

Looking in Options I see FSX Program   C:\Flight Simulator X.    This is incorrect.  I browse to C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsof Flight Simulator X,  which is correct.   But when I go back into options it is still the same as before.   The same applies to FS9.

The path for FS Scenery.cfg is shown correctly

Hundreds ! all within the two or three minutes I took to fail to load the database in either of the sims.

Extract from FS9 part
20:20:47   Building database for FS9#
20:20:47   Writing 0 airspace boundaries
ditto   0 VORs &c.

There are about 25 entries for the failed FS9 attempt.

For FSX there are literally hundreds  all saying, in effect "could not find this or that piece of FSX scenrery.

Plan-G / Plan-G won't Load.
May 24, 2010, 08:37:50 PM
Tim,

I recently had to re-install both FSX and FS9.   Plan-G would not load,  so I re-named Plan-G,  downloaded a new copy and installed it.  It still won't load.  In both sims, when I click on "Load Data"  it says the usual "this may take some time",  I click OK and in five seconds it has finished and nothing is loaded.   Both sims and Plan-G are on the same computer so it isn't a network problem.  I have the latest FSUIPC in both sims and have chosen that for the connection to Plan-G.

Help would be appreciated.

Plan-G / Re: Can't delete previous version
October 26, 2009, 06:48:19 PM
Not simple, when, as I have described, I cannot find any folder for Plan-G.

However, I may know in a few minutes whether through the bliss of ignorance I have actually succeeded.   I went back again to "Search" and searched again for Plan-G, thinking I would try some more deleting.

It has been at it now for nearly an hour and has only so far produced the Readme for the Beta version.  First time round it showed sixty odd files within a minute or two.  Perhaps one of the files I deleted was the crucial one, and the others wouldn't delete because the base file was no longer there.  I'll report back.

Plan-G / Can't delete previous version
October 26, 2009, 05:32:42 PM
Tim,

I had PlanG_Beta1 installed.  Now want to install v0.8.0.  I can't find out how to delete the Beta version.
It doesn't appear in the Add/Remove programs, nor in Program files.

I have used the search facility which brings up more than 60 files.  I have tried deleting these one by one, but many of them refuse to delete.

Would be glad of your advice.
