V4 Beta / Re: Build 237
December 19, 2020, 08:11:55 PM
Plan-G Installer for Build 237 (Plan-G.exe for x64) requires .NET Core so I downloaded/executed. Then attempted to install Plan-G again (even as administrator) but got the same requirement message. What did I miss?

I don't think ATC is aware of my FP, much less which leg. Onboard GPS is directing me precisely along the path of my plan. ATC blindly keeps giving me courses and altitudes of it's own, unaware of intersections, as if all it knows is my destination airport. The onboard GPS matches the Plan-G map and my view out the window so I think I'm right where I should be.

I agree that in this case ATC is dumb. But I haven't attempted this before so I'm not a bright light either. For example, I have no idea when it's reasonable to activate an approach. Just before the first WP (same as intersection?) in the transition? (I think the en route portion ends when I reach the first WP of the transition.) I thought the objective is - file a plan, load it in my GPS, and AP will follow the route, all the while with ATC prompting me to turn where my plan already says I want to turn. I think I lack the knowledge of how all IFR traffic follows the rules. Haven't seen a tutorial about that yet. I have a young friend who recently did his first cross country, and his father flies an EMB190. I'll exploit that resource next.

I didn't get a notification when you replied to my post. I have the Notify box ticked. have I missed something?

Thank you Tim. I hoped there was a more straightforward way. FSX is very nice but it does have its shortcomings. I'm anxious to see what Microsoft's new FS2020 can do.

I've found several innovators but nothing as near to real life as I had hoped. Everyone knows to avoid responding to ATC. Plan-G is a super product. I donated quite a while ago. Think I'll do it again. I can't imagine the effort you've made. I like seeing where I am on the map. Best for me: I can use it build an FP and use the GPS to select/load a STAR and transition at a time that seems appropriate (still a guess).

I create an IFR FP in Plan-G, ATC clears me, and off I go. I fire up my GPS and A/P, and ATC gives me a course and altitude. My FP wants to take me to three waypoints, then my destination - different than what ATC wants. I climb to the requested altitude but ATC says to expedite my turn - away from my first WP. I acknowledge but continue following my FP. But they're insistent. But I filed a FP and they cleared it! In real life, I assume that ATC would route me as filed. Is that right? I'm just a simmer, no real experience. How do I resolve this? Keep responding so ATC doesn't cancel my FP?

En route I decide to get fancy and select a GPS arrival proc to rwy 6 with a specific transition. ATC is still giving me directions, which I acknowledge but don't follow. The FP is taking me the way I want to go. Is this the best I can do, or is there a way to simulate this more closely?) At what point would I really load/activate an approach and transition on my GPS? After the third WP?

At present, between my final WP and the destination, I load/activate a GPS approach to rwy 6 and the same for a transition. I'm almost on final, but now the GPS wants to take me far to the north to several other WPs, and  look there... I've captured the localizer. Oh dear. Traffic is scattering. I've aggravated the northern hemisphere. How in God's name should I be doing this? I can't find the reading material I need.

Plan-G / Creating New IFR Flight Plan for FSX
April 27, 2019, 10:47:55 PM
I haven't simmed for several years and would like to resume.  I've forgotten how to do something very basic. I use PlanGv3 (v 3.2.0.144) with FSX on a Win 10 system.
I want to create an IFR flight plan using Plan-G and execute it on FSX.  FSX seems to demand flight plans of filetype PLN (and I'm sure I have previously used Plan-G to create PLN plans, so I'm pretty sure it can be done).

But I can only create PLG flight plan files in Plan-G.  I seem to recall that I was able to force Plan-G to save a new flight plan as a PLN.  And then somehow force FSX to execute that plan.  Can someone walk me through this once?

Plan-G / Re: Roadway Identifiers Incorrect
February 20, 2018, 06:20:04 PM
Ugh. I thrashed about and in File\Options found Map Options. Mine was set for OpenCycle Map - it displayed incorrect road names. I tried OpenTopoMap and the map was far too detailed to use; meaningful flight information was obscured.

OpenStreet Map looked better; it contained correct road names and numbers plus moderate detail. I must have changed this, then changed it back. Foolish me.  End of problem.  Operator error.  Sorry for taking your time.  Please close this incident.

Plan-G / Roadway Identifiers Incorrect
February 20, 2018, 03:37:26 AM
The state and interstate highways in my area (Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina, US) have had odd identifiers for a long time. I didn't know if it was a bug or not so I didn't take any action.

Last week for some reason they displayed correctly. I was thrilled. But now they're back to something that looks like it belongs to another country. I don't recall ever changing any options, but I guess I must have done it without realizing it. Any ideas?

Well, let's not bother Tim after all. And I've taken your time unnecessarily as well. I updated from ver 3.1.2.101 to 320144 and no longer have the issue. Furthermore, my map of the US had incorrect highway designations and now that's fine too. Life is good. I may have a beer.
Thanks very much for your willing spirit! -Gary

Sorry I'm slow to reply. I didn't get notification that you had posted.

Tooltips is ticked. The problem is most evident if the VOR is within an airport's airspace. In that case, even if I move the pointer around inside the compass rose/airspace there's never a popup with the VOR's freq. If I can stay outside the airspace but within the rose, the tip may pop up eventually, but it's not consistent.

If the VOR is far removed from airspace, the popup is consistent. Any other suggestions?

I checked for Plan-G updates and there is one available so I'll install it and see if anything changes.

I have Plan G3 ver 3.1.2.101. Haven't used it for quite awhile.  I can't find a consistent way to get a popup identifying a VOR's freq when I mouseover or right-click it and if it's in an airport's airspace (class D, E, etc). And I can't get an airport's ICAO code to popup if I mouseover or right click the VOR symbol. Seems like this used to work for me a year ago but I haven't flown in a long time. Have I simply forgotten how to do it?

Plan-G / After Upgrade to Win 10 I See No Map
September 26, 2016, 02:22:29 AM
Following a zapped motherboard, it took a month to get my system hardware rebuilt. I have reinstalled FSX and have started doing the same with my add-ons.  Upon launching Plan-G v3 I saw the expected icons for airports, ILS feathers, NDBs, etc., but the map portion is replaced by a screen full of tiles that all say:

"As of July 11, 2016 direct tile access has been discontinued."

I searched the forum for this symptom but found no matches.  What are my options?  I'm already in major pain from having to reinstall dozens of FSX add-ons.

Thanks, Gary

Plan-G / Upgraded to New Ver, Lost My Settings
November 26, 2015, 05:26:41 AM
I just upgraded from Plan-G v3.0.1.71 to v3.1.2.101 and discovered that none of my settings were propagated.  Must I reenter them from scratch?  I expected that the earlier version's settings would be carried forward.

Thanks very much for the reply. I didn't realize that it was intentional.

Plan-G / Auto Connect to FSX Using FSUIPC
January 23, 2014, 11:28:21 PM
I upgraded from Plan-G v 2 to v3 and can't get Plan-G to auto connect to FSX any more. My system is Win7 64-bit and I use FSUIPC v4. Maybe I have the wrong Plan-G connect parameters specified, but from what I get out of the U/G I don't see what I've done wrong.

Thanks, A8
