How do I generate a trail file?

I'm kind of new to both FSX and Plan-G but so far I love both! I'm actually trying to do some flight analysis and the data generated in the trail files is exactly what I need. My question is, how do I generate the trail file? Is it a Plan-G feature or an FSX feature? Sorry for the beginner question. Thanks for any help.
