Connecting Plan G through a router

I read the Plan G manual but still not understanding how to connect over the network through a router. Have two PC's running Windows 7 Pro connected to the internet via cable modem through a wired router for both PC's. Do I need to use FSUIPC and WideFS? Tried using the SimConnect method with the IPv6 of the FSX compter and SimConnect.xml file, in fsx.cfg. IPv6 Connection address, Port/Pipe Server in the PlanG SimConnect Settings. Set for Auto connect. Unable to connect PlanG to FSX using SimConnect on the second computer. Have the MAC address and IP address added for both PC's set to allowed PC's on the router security settings.

it would be helpful if you included your PC's IP parameters and an extract from the log covering your connection attempt. Otherwise there's not much advice we can give you that hasn't already been said here 100 times.

Ok, one final thing: Have you added the FS PC's ip6 link-local address and the port number to your Simconnect.XML file?

Yes have done that.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="WINDOWS-1252"?>
-<SimBase.Document version="1,0" Type="SimConnect">
<Descr>SimConnect</Descr>
<Filename>SimConnect.xml</Filename>
-<SimConnect.Comm>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<Protocol>IPv6</Protocol>
<Scope>link-local</Scope>
<MaxClients>64</MaxClients>
<Address>fe80::ec1c:794a:4688:8fd0</Address>
<Port>4506</Port>
</SimConnect.Comm>
</SimBase.Document>

Went to check that today, the fsx.cfg today and the Simconnect.xml I placed there is missing? I saved the fsx.cfg before closing it after inserting the Simconnect.xml.
Placed the Simconnect.xml at the top of the fsx.cfg above [Sound]. Also are the hyphens in the lines -<SimBase.Document version="1,0" Type="SimConnect"> and -<SimConnect.Comm> belong? I open Simconnect.xml with Microsoft Explorer 9 I don't see those hyphens? When I copied that text and pasted it to fsx.cfg the hyphens were there. Also the fsx.cfg on my Windows 7 64 bit professional is in the user AppData, Roaming, Microsoft FSX. If that makes any difference.

Later:

Went back and made sure that the Simconnect.xml was saved in fsx.cfg, it was and then took out the hyphens, saved fsx.cfg again. Still no connect to PlanG.

Using Windows Explorer and right clicking on Network, right click the name of my pc and then properties I see a unique identifier: uuid:bb22092f-92ec-4aac-bd4a-97ee7650acb7 which is different from the IPv6 address and also the IP Adress as ::1

OK, first, Simconnect.xml is its own file: You do not add it to fsx.cfg. It merely lives in the same folder.

Second, the link-local address you have used does not match either of the addresses in your previous post.

To find your link-local address: Start->Network->Properties

In the properties dialog click on Connections: Local Area Connection then select Details.

Tim,

OK thanks, made the corrections and took out the xml lines I copied to the AppData, Roaming, Microsoft, FSX fsx.cfg and placed the Simconnect.xml into AppData, Roaming, Microsoft, FSX folder. Changed the link-local address and changed that address in PlanG, Options, FSX connection.  All is working.

This was a good lesson in connecting two computers over my local network. Have not had any previous experience with local networking.

Thanks,

Jerry
