The path it's using for the scenery.cfg should be in the log file.

OK, great. On my installation of Plan-G, it uses C:\Documents and Settings\Jeff\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX\Scenery.cfg. I probably told it to look there, but as I said, that copy is not getting updated by FSX for some reason. So, I will tell Plan-G to scan the "All Users" copy instead.

Thanks to all.

The path it's using for the scenery.cfg should be in the log file.

By default, it uses the path "Environment.SpecialFolder.CommonApplicationData", which should correctly map to the "All Users" folder, regardless of whether you are using XP, Vista or Win7. This can be overridden by specifying a path to Scenery.cfg in the Options dialog.

For some reason, Plan-G was using the scenery.cfg file in the "Jeff" folder, rather than the Scenery.CFG file in the "All Users" folder. The scenery.cfg file hadn't been updated since July 2007.

I corrected this problem in the Options/Locations/FSX Scenery.cfg dialog, and now ALL my airports and Navaids are showing up!

Tim

My Plan-G log shows d:/FSX/scenery.cfg
Also scenery.cfg exists in users/fisher/appdata/roaming/microsoft/fsx (WinVista64)
Both of these are the original default files.
I have as yet to find the scenery.cfg file that FSX actually uses, and which contains a list of all my addons as loaded into the addon scenery folder, but not in the existing addon scenery/scenery and texture folders.
I keep them separate, to facilitate adding and removing only those I need to.
Are you saying that all of them should go into the addon scenery/scenery folders, there are hundreds of files, imagine sorting thro them to delete any.

I need to find that working scenery.cfg file.

No. I'm saying that you must map the folders on PC2 such that the exactly match whatever you have specified in the scenery.cfg. on PC1.

In FSX and Windows 7, scenery.cfg is in c:\Program Data\Microsoft\FSX. This is a hidden folder, so you need to have "Show hidden folders" active to see it. The path is different for XP, but it's so long since I used XP that I don't remember it.

Sorry Tim
I must be a bit dim.
I have mapped the drives/sims, mapped the doc folder containing the FS flight files.
The log, I presume points to the main FSX/Scenery folder, which is the 2 scenery config files. I presume, I must now map the addon scenery folder? which must be written into another scenery config file, or is it.(I am thinking there is a third config file somewhere, containing the default and addon sceneries) or I am wrong.

In the Plan-G locations dialog, you are required to enter two pieces of information for a remote FSX install.

* The location of the FSX.exe program
* The location of the scenery.cfg (Program Data, as per my post above)

Obviously both locations must be shared.

Additionally, if you have added scenery that is installed outside of the FSC directory structure, the folders containing it must also be shared, AND must be mapped on PC2 with EXACTLY the same path name - so if it is E:\MyScenery on PC1, it must be mapped to E:\MyScenery on PC2.

(As I said elsewhere, by far the simplest method of running on PC2 is to install and build the databases on PC1, and then transfer it all across)
