I would love to use Plan-G but cannot justify a $50-$60/month internet bill at home just for that.  If the default map data (like Plan-G's other Nav. data) from FSX could be used then the map should be as good as Open Street Map minus the roads - and I could live without them.  Is an offline mode possible ?  In any case Thank you for this amazing tool !

You can build your own map tile server, although it requires a pretty powerful dedicated PC, and the base OSM data set is a >30GB download. Quite an expensive undertaking, but it will work. Otherwise, I'm afraid Plan-G needs an online connection.

Thank you for your reply of Dec.7. I am relatively new to computers (appox.1.5yrs.). Is the cache you mentioned "Base OSM(Open Street Map?) set is a >30GB download"  available as a one time download from Open Street Map?  if so where is it found?  If your referring to caching Google Earth manually do you have any preferences or suggestions as to how to automate that process?

This is the "start here" page: https://switch2osm.org/serving-tiles/ You'll need a reasonably powerful, dedicated PC running Linux, and the setup process would be considered "advanced". The Planet file (38GB or 62GB in xml) and weekly updates are here http://planet.openstreetmap.org (linked from the first page). I built one a few years ago, but the old laptop I had (only machine available) wasn't up to the job. When they say you need a powerful machine, they mean it.
