Plan-G version 0.9.x Feedback

G'day Tim,

I've been using Plan-G since the early beta releases (I run Plan-G on a Laptop connecting to FSX via my local network using simconnect) and have been very pleased with the software however I have noticed a definite performance drop with versions 0.9.0 and 0.9.1. The software has become very "laggy" and I also experience constant "software not responding" issues where I am forced to shut down Plan-G and restart it.

Due to the above issues I have now reverted back to using version 0.8.1. I have no lag issues with this version and I never have the problem of the software not responding. I do miss the new features you introduced with versions 0.9.x though.

I'm not sure if anything can be done about this but I thought I should bring these issues I am having to your attention.

Regards,
Serge

I have to confirm Serge's observations. On my old laptop (Fujitsu Lifebook/Transmeta Crusoe 800MHz/239MB RAM) connecting to FSX with FSUIPC, Plan-G would run almost acceptably (updating the user aircraft and trail every few seconds). But NOW with 420 and 423, Plan-G takes about 5 minutes to even START, and the updates are taking 10 or more seconds.

My laptop is clearly limited by its RAM and CPU, which are running at near full capacity even when idle (Windows XP SP3).

What is it about Plan-G's new features that could be bogging it down?

Do any other users have some observations on Plan-G's performance?

I've done some basic timed tests - open, pan NSEW, zoom in & out etc, and yes there is a significant performance difference. I'm surprised no-one pointed it out in testing! I shall certainly be invesitgating the cause and, take steps to remedy it for the next version.  :)

Thanks for looking into this Tim. If you need any more information or perhaps even some testing done please let me know.

Cheers,
