Problem with W7

When I had Plan-G running on my xp64 system, I was able to get it into a smooth operation with few issues. Just built a new system - 980x with a GTX280 running on w7 64 professional. Completely fresh install of the OS and FSX/Aceleration. Plan G is not networked.

Set it up using the same settings I had in XP64  - I run Plan g on a second monitor to the LEFT of my main - just like XP - however - out of 10 different flights, only ONE worked as before. All he others had the same issue - even though the AI showing moved smoothly across the screen, the yellow user a/c would stay put and then suddenly jump a few inches across the screen. Any idea where I should look to solve the issue. Nothing unusual is running in the background. Old system was a quad core at 3.88ghz and the new one is a six core at 3.34ghz.

Thanx,

Vic

First place to look is thre User Aircraft Refresh Rate setting in Options. Otherwise, check the log for errors...

Tim. @TimArnot

vgbaron

#2
refresh rate = 1

Took off about 5:30 - user a/c did not move for amost 1 1/2 minutes. Flew for a bit more with similar delays between updates. AI were updating rapidly even while the user a/c was not.

Windows firewall is disabled - UAC is off

EDIT:

May have figured it out

I've been starting PlanG be3fore FSX and windows 7 changes the screen to "basic" - that does strtange things to PlanG on the second monitor. Tried several flights and didn't start PlanG until AFTER FSX had started and the screen had changed and it worked as before - no problems.

Perhaps someone else with w7 and multi monitors can confirm.

I'll continue to test to see if the pattern holds.

Fingers crossed!

Hi vgbaron,

I am running W7 x64 with multiple monitors and have seen some of the same issues.  As long as I start Plan-G after everything has loaded and I am ready to fly, everything works great.  Interesting enough is that I set Plan-G up on an XP networked machine and connected it to my W7 machine, I still had the same problems.
Obviously we both need to be a bit more patient.   :D

Cheers
Craig.

vgbaron

Agreed Craig. Now, Plan-G works *MOST* of the time but occasionally, for no good reason, it will stop moving my a/c but the AI continues normally. Not getting any error messages in the log, it just flat out hangs. If I can narrow it down to something specific, I'll post it for Tim to check out

I've seen it happen, but not been able to tie it down to anything specific (generally it only ever happens if I'm not running the debugger, or I'm in the middle of an MP session!). Usually a quick disconnect-reconnect will sort it.

Switch W7 to BASIC before you start a flying session.

If you only use the comp for flying leave it in BASIC.

I haven't had a problem leaving it in BASIC.

I am using W7 64.

already did that - no difference. Today while flying along - suddenly got message "Plan-G has stopped working"  Again nothing unusual in log.

Took another flight today - everything normal and then Plan-G stopped ujpdating the user a/c - Ai still moving right along. At about the 1:09 mark, it started up again. I flew until 1:24 and exited FSX and Plan-G normally.

I see no log entries after 1.09

This is Windows7 64 Pro.

OK - I completely exited Plan-g and FSX and about 1:30 started another flight - as you can see - the log appended rather than start a new one.

Eventually P-G stopped moving uise a/c again. I disconnected and reconnected - no solution. I UNsync'd the a/c. manually moved the map and then resync'd - a/c stayed put. Ended flight at 2:50.  Last entry in log is 2:39

Hope this helps.
