1 st ... Thank You for V3 ! It is soooooo much quicker than V2 & w/o crashes & overflows  :-)

I created all the obstacles for the US,  (limited coverage of the Pacific, the Caribbean, Canada, and Mexico) from a little program I've made. Using the complete.csv file does not work as the database importer crashes after a while.. So I reduced it to state by state and am currently importing them.. I would like to release it but the import process takes a long time. I wouldn't want to release just the .CSVs because of the time it takes to import so the question is ---

In the manual section 2.1, bullet #10 (pg 11) it states - " Customisable database of user waypoints, Visual Reference Points (VRPs), airstrips etc. Many useful waypoints are included in the download. Multiple user databases can be built if required. How is this done ? or can it be done ? I would like to release just a precompiled .SDF of just the obstacles so it wouldn't be as tough on the end user. There are are 177,000 obstacles in this database.

2nd question - Is a V3 csv backwards compatible with V2 ? The only difference I see is in the 1st value.. IE .." 7," = Obstacles in V3 while "Obstacles," =Obstacles in V2.. It seems V2 --> V3 works though.

Thank you very much for all your work :-)

That looks like an error in the manual - there is only one user waypoint database.

V3 will read the v2 csvs but v2 won't read the v3 ones with the numeric category (it's stored numerically in v3, since the value is localised)

If the obstacle data is public, let me know how big the SDF is - it might be feasible to include it i the distro...

Tim,

Yes the data is public..  https://nfdc.faa.gov/tod/public/TOD_DOF.html  .. So far I have about 1/4 of the states compiled, this includes the all the user wypts in the release plus a converted USA fix file from  "The Reporting Point" section pg 2.  The size of the .sdf is 7.3M at this point. The complete US obstacles .csv is 19.2M if that will give you an idea..  I've attached a smaller .csv for Hawaii (505 records < 1 min)   . If you like, maybe take a peek at it and see if there is maybe a different format, or, information to  be provided If you think this could be releasable. BTW the new DOF release is in a few days so I may just hold back before I get too far.

I've noticed that the mag dev is automatically produced if the csv field is 0. Is this true? I hope so, as the provided data does not include it. It seems correct :-)

P.S. My recommended minimum zoom for obstacles is 10 or 11 for these files.

Thanks Again,
Roman
