No elevation data

I cannot get elevation data to appear in the Plan-G maps or by using the "plan elevation" icon (with a flightplan loaded). I have DEM file b10g.gz loaded in the Documents\Plan-G Files\DEM folder. The connection to FSX seems to be working, as the aircraft position etc is correctly shown on the P-G map. I wonder if there's any connection with an existing problem I have in FSX, in that elevation data does not appear either on the FSX maps or the GPS terrain display, (or, rather, it DOES appear briefly, then rapidly disappears, square by square, before my eyes!) It was this problem that I'd hoped Plan-G would solve, following a hint on the PlaySims forum. I am using Windows 7 and an IPv6 connection. Any advice much appreciated!

Thanks VGBaron. However, when I 2-click it, I get a message saying Windows can't open this type of file. There's a supposed fix suggested from a site called "filedoctor"; does anyone know whether it's reliable? Or am I just going about it the wrong way?

Following my last post, I've obtained the WinZip program and have now unzipped the file in the DEM sub-folder so it's only shown as b10g.
Still no elevation information showing in Plan-G, however.

Does that file cover the area you're flying in?

Hi Tim. Yes, I'm based around Liverpool.

Problem fixed! I hadn't properly unzipped the tile files in the DEM sub-folder, not being familiar with that process, even though vgbaron had pointed me in that direction. Unfortunately it still hasn't fixed the problem re terrain elevation in FSX, which is what I'd hoped for in the first place, but Plan-G is certainly worth having in itself. An amazing product, Tim, although no doubt I'll be back pestering you all with more queries!
