Forgive me if this has been dealt with in the past, I've never set up two puters before and have surprised myself by doing so first time successfully !! Anyhoo,

My netbook (with XP) is communicating/file sharing ok with my desktop (also on XP).

I have PlanG on my netbook, it has found the FSX.exe and scenery.cfg files that are on my Desktop (I have used the options tab in PlanG to tell it where they were) and PlanG has loaded fine, created the database and loads flight plans etc just fine in offline mode.

When I ask it to connect to FSX I get...

Unable to connect to Flight Simulator. (Is FS running?)
If you are using FS9, check you have FSUIPC installed
Please see the log for more details.

So, I looked at the log  :o

Right, so my eyes glazed over and my brain went a bit mushy but I spotted the following which my help those of you who are in the know !   ;D

I'm guessing I need to tell it that FSX is running on the other machine (Desktop) but I thought it new and if not, how do I do it?

Is something else?

I'm affraid my programming skills stop at VB chapter one ! ::)

Oh, the 'computer name' bit confused me because my computers don't share the same name.

Thanks for any help,

That happens on some computers. Go into the main Options dialog (from the aeroplane button)  and open the FS Connection tab.

Set Network Mode to IPv4
Set FSX Computer to blank (remove whatever's in the box)
Set Server Port/Pipe to 0

and you should be right.

Hello Tim and thank you very much for your software. Since i use Plan-G i abandon FSMAP which is a superb moving map but totally without map !

in first i apologise for my bad english language i am french and i try to use my school rest  :-[

I have the same problem than Skismo and your solution doesn't resolve it.

I use FSX on Vista 64 and Plan-G on a laptop with Win XP.

Disapointed i keep using Plan -G Beta2  ::)

Sorry, that's my fault for not reading the question properly.  ::) The solution I gave will make it work on the same PC, not across the network.

If you have set upSimConnect.xml on your FS PC (for beta 2) then you are halfway there.

In 0.8, the Simconnect.cfg on the client PC is no more. Instead, the settings are made in the options dialog (I referred to this in my other answer). You will need to take the values that you had in the Simconnect.cfg file, and place them in the FS Connection tab

so:

Set Network Mode to IPv4
Set FSX Computer to 192.168.0.3 (or whatever your FS PC IP address is)
Set Server Port/Pipe to 500 (or whatever you defined in the Simconnect.cfg & xml)

Me again !  ;D

Have done as above, my PlanG on the laptop works, loads the scenery, flight plans etc and when I ask it to connect it connects (simconnect) but with an error message..

'Unable to connect to remote Flight Simulator (timeout).
Check FSX is running, and that your protocol settings are correct.'

Any ideas?

Thanks.  :-[

Ooops, forgot to state the problem is that my little yellow plane doesn't show up !

Double check the IP address and port number. And also that you have specified either Auto or Simconnect in the Options dialog, and the protocol is set to IPv4.

In the Simconnect.xml on the FS PC make sure the entry for IPv4 'Global' has <Disabled> set to False.

thank you Tim it's running now  :D

I have been working on this so long, I'm about to throw in the towel.  I'll make it as short as possible.

I'm having the same issues the OP did.  Here are my specs:

FSX PC running Win 7 Home Prem
Plan-G PC is a netbook running Win 7 Home Prem
Connected on Home Network through Netgear router

Running Plan-G on FSX PC works perfect, including the connection.  I have tried everything I can think of and can not get the netbook to connect Plan-G to FSX.  I have double and triple checked that my IPv4 setting, port settings, etc. match from the XML to the Plan-G settings.

ANY suggestions would be great, I'm really frustrated here.  Thanks in advance.

Things to check:

* You are running FSX SP2/Acceleration
* You can ping each PC from the other one
* You are not being blocked by the firewall

Other than that, post your SimConnect.xml, and Plan-G_Log.txt files here and we'll see if they suggest anything further.

Tim,

Thanks for the quick reply.

1.  I am running FSX Acceleration
2.  Not sure how to do this
3.  I shut down my firewall with the same results.

I should also note that I have tried the IPv4 and IPv6 protocols with the same results, it times out and asks me to verify I'm running FSX, which I am.

Thanks again, your help is appreciated.  I love this product and would very much like to be able to use it on linked computers.
