Running on a network *OR* local machine

Thinking about a dual situation. 1) Plan-G installed on local system AND Plan-G installed on a networked system. If I am just flying locally and not online I prefer to use the local copy. If I fly online I would prefer a networked copy.

If I create a SimConnect.xml file to deal with the networked copy - what effect will that have when I try to run the local copy instead?

Would it be better to set the local copy up as a pipe and the networked copy ipv4/6 or does it matter.

Hope this makes sense.  :)

Thanx,

Vic

In the SimConnect.xml file you can define local ports and global ports. There are default local ports that are created anyway (and these are reflected by the default values in the xml, which means that - strictly speaking - you can delete the local ports from the xml file and still connect locally. This is the same as not having an xml file for local connections). The global ports you define will be created whether you connect to them or not. The port number convention I've adopted is that the last digit reflects the protocol, so 4504 is the IP4 port, and 4506 is the IP6 port. That makes it easy to remember in the FS connect dialog.

Once you have created the xml file, you can connect to and disconnect from these ports as you see fit. I've had a local pipe connection and remote IP4 and IP6 connections all running simultaneously, with no noticeable impact.
