Hello, just spend the entire night trying to get Plan-G on my XP laptop to connect with FSX on a Win7 PC - via my router.

Both are wired to the router and I've tried numerous and countless suggestions in various posts, -but alas. Im getting a feeling it has something to do with SimConnect.xml. Because after editing this file I assumed FSX/Win7 would prompt me to unblock the protocol in the firewall. But FSX doesn't state anything when loaded...as if nothing is changed.

I have tried the different suggested setups from the manual, tried many IP solutions, checked and double-checked all entries. Same results no matter what protocol I ran - IPv4 or IPv6.

Plan-G log says it times out when trying to connect to the host. It doesnt state any other error. I have enabled IPv6 on my laptop assuming both machines required the same protocol, or is it possible to run different protocols? The host machine (win7) says "No Network Access" at the IPv6 status, is my router perhaps too old? (Its a Jensen Airlink89000)

I know SimConnect works locally on my FSX machine, Ultimate Traffic II is installed and works fine - and I know it uses simconncet. Only it has its own SimConnect.xml stored within the UTII folder. Is this perhaps a problem?

Have I missed out on the page in the manual saying clearly you cannot run across network from different OS' ?  ??? Im all out of luck, - and sleep - jeeeezuz I have to get up in 2 hrs and go to work!

Someone cast a magic spell in my direction , please,- 'cause the program looks great!  :'(

Please post your Simconnect.xml and the Plan-G log file. Thanks.

Ok, here's the xml.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>
<SimBase.Document Type="SimConnect" version="1,0">
  <Descr>SimConnect</Descr>
  <Filename>SimConnect.xml</Filename>
<SimConnect.Comm>
  <Disabled>False</Disabled>
  <Protocol>IPv4</Protocol>
  <Scope>global</Scope>
  <Address>192.168.0.110</Address>
  <MaxClients>64</MaxClients>
  <Port>4506</Port>
  <MaxRecvSize>4096</MaxRecvSize>
  <DisableNagle>False</DisableNagle>
</SimConnect.Comm>
</SimBase.Document>

Have to mention this file has gone through various changes from editing and I hope its intact, somewhat. There is an additional simconnect.xml stored in my UTII folder, is this of concern?

Log file in post below.

And the rather long log file, had to remove the first hours due to forum post limitation..

From the file you'll see that I've tried diffrent settings and entries. Happy readings  :D

The IP in your xml is 192.168.0.110  and the IP in your Plan-G is 192.168.0.101

get them to match, and you might be on a winner...  ;)

Hi, Tim!

Logical suggestion but I had them matching earlier as well, but no luck. Initially I assumed the xml had to be directed to the client/laptop IP (which is 192.168.0.110) and Plan-G set to locate the Win7/FSX machine IP (which seems to be 192.168.0.3 - *IPv4)
*But I really dont know which protocol my client (XP) uses, do they have to use same? How do I know if my client uses IPv4 or 6 since XP doesnt tell me from ipconfig.

What bothers me is why FSX is not asking me to open my firewall for this traffic. Any clue? As if my XML is ignored when loading the game.. I also tried adding TCP port 4506 manually on all 3 firewalls but neither that helped.

Thank you for helping out so far!

XP does not have IPv6, unless you have installed it separately.

An address that starts 192.168 is an IPv4 address. An address that starts fe80:: is an IPv6 address. Your xml only specifies IPv4, and so that is what you must use.

The address you need to specify is that of the PC that is running FSX (and hosting Simconnect.xml). Make sure Simconnect.xml is in the same folder as your fsx.cfg (I don't remember where that is in XP)

You're quite right! "Houston - we are connected!"

Of all the combinations I tried this was not one of them... just my usual luck ;-)

One thing that puzzles me is that FSX still not requires me to open port 4506 in my local firewall, I know for sure there I removed those entries manually when I tried different settings.

Ok, thank you for your help, Tim - much appreciated!
