Can't build a FSX database

Hi there,

I know this has been discussed before but after reading all related post, I did not find a solution. I just installed for the first time Plan-G on a VIsta32 system and gave it the FSX  path and the Scenery.cfg path. I hit the Blue X database build button and I got a windows telling me that bulding the database would take "some time". Actually, it takes 1 (one) second.

Here is an part of the Plan-G log.txt file :
16:12:48.1 FS directory is: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\
16:12:48.1 Scanning Scenery.cfg (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\Scenery.cfg)
16:12:48.8 Writing 0 airspace boundaries
16:12:48.8 Generating airspace vectors
16:12:48.9 Rebuilding indexes
16:12:48.9 Writing 0 VORs
16:12:48.9 Rebuilding indexes
16:12:48.9 Writing 0 NDBs
16:12:48.9 Rebuilding indexes
16:12:49.0 Writing 0 intersections
16:12:49.0 Rebuilding indexes
16:12:49.0 Writing approaches
16:12:49.0 Rebuilding indexes
16:12:49.1  Finished writing 1 approaches for 0 airports.
16:12:49.1 Writing 0 airports
16:12:49.1 Rebuilding indexes
16:12:49.1  Finished writing Airports.0:0.27
16:12:49.1 Database load complete.

As you can see, Plan-G knows the right path to FSX and reads the Scenery.cfg file at the right place (this scenery file has 262 areas and IS the current file used by FSX). As FSX works fine on my rig, I am pretty sure that there is no problem with that file or the BGL files in the FSX folders.
Plan-G, though, can not "write" or if it does, it writes "0" item that it needs.
Is it a "vista security feature" related problem? Well, it has been a long time that I run my rig as an administrator and I never have problem like this. Although I nevertheless did what is suggested in the posts and installed Plan-G as an administrator and ran it likewise, it did not succeeded.
This software looks great. Well, up to now, it just looks!
Thanks

I've never seen it just do nothing at all like that -- it doesn't appear to be making any effort to read the scenery.cfg.

What I'd suggest trying is to make a copy of the scenery.cfg somewhere public (e.g My Documents) then set the cfg file location in Plan-G Options to that new location, and see if it'll read it there.

Thanks for your fast support.
When I read that you never saw such a behavior before, I realized that the problem was probably coming from my side. I must confess that I have made an Scenery.cfg editor of my own and FSX has very occasionnaly some problem reading it when edited by my software. So, just to be sure, I started FSX, went to the scenery library and clicked Ok in order to let FSX rebuild the scenery.cfg file... and Bingo! Plan-G made the database, writing big numbers. 25411 airports are there and I am going to have fun with your program. And I will go back to my editor.

Thanks again.

Hello Tim,
Your suggestion worked for me. I tried to rebuild my FSX database after installing two Orbx FTX airports. The scenery location (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\Scenery.CFG ) was correct in options. Plan-G did nothing but the ribbons other than data were no longer accessible. Restoring the file PlanG3_FSX.sdf from a backup fixed the program but no scenery update.

I copied scenery.cfg to My Documents and tried again. This time I got the progress bar and information. It took 7 minutes.
I wonder if this has to do with the program SceneryConfigEditor that I use for unloading scenery I don't use on a current flight. Or is it just a permissions problem?

Anyway thank you for a very valuable program. I am equally impressed with the quality of your manual. It is rare for software manuals to be so well thought out.

If your scenery config editor hides scenery from FSX, it will certainly hide it from Plan-G too.
