Simconnect timeout again

Thanks for this great program, but run into a snag.  A month ago everything worked fine, but haven't used it till I installed the new update 2.03.  Now I can't connect across network as I have before.  Two days of research and no joy.
FSX flying on XP Pro SP3
Plan G on laptop XP Home
Connects OK on flying computer but won't across network

Connected by Simconnect IPv4 through E1000 router.  No firewall or virus checkers on anything.
Changes in last month.  Install VRS Superbug, AICarriers2, Arrestor Cables, COP3
Had to replace router that was lynksys modified with tomato now is cisco E1000 no mods all firewall off and port 4506 forwards both.

paste of simconnect.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>
<SimBase.Document Type="SimConnect" version="1,0">
<Descr>SimConnect</Descr>
<Filename>SimConnect.xml</Filename>

<MaxClients>64</MaxClients>
<Port>4506</Port>
<MaxRecvSize>4096</MaxRecvSize>
<DisableNagle>False</DisableNagle>
</SimConnect.Comm>

I tried using computer name also, but didn't use //, should I?

Setup in Plan-G is IPv4, 192.168.1.100, 4506

Error is Unable to connect with timeout.  I see no attempts made through router on port 4506 and see nothing in plan g log except remote connection timed out and nothing in simconnect log set on error or normal or verbose.

I attempted to connect from another laptop that had not been modified since it worked and still had version .9 on it and it gave same error.  So I assume it is not the Plan G installation it is something in between.  I suspect something on my router isn't set correctly so what am I missing?  One connection attempt was wireless and the other hardwired.

I tried a netstat -ao | find/i "established" and other forms of netstat and didn't see any indication that simconnect was listening on port 4506.  I don't know if I should though.

Any ideas?

One more thing.  I deleted the loopback adapter on all my computers.  Would that make a difference.  I installed it for using FSINN, but I don't use that anymore.

If you've changed routers, double check the IP address assignments. Your FS PC ideally needs to have a reserved address, and you need to set that up in the router (otherwise it will change every time you restart).

yes it has been static at 192.168.1.100.  I also attempted to disable NAT and that didn't work.  I ran a Net Activity checker on both the desktop and the laptop while launching Plan G and saw no activity on port 4506.  I also used PFChecker on desktop with router set to forward port 4506 to desktop it showed open and then checked laptop without changing router and the port showed closed so ran PFChecker on laptop after forwarding port to laptop, which also has a static IP and it showed open.  So I can get from the outside to both computers, but not to each computer on that port.  What should I see in the simconnect log file when I start FSX?  I don't see anything about simconnect.xml even being recognized.  Also when I run netstat -ao | find/i I don't see any listening being done on port 4506 on the desktop.  Should I when FSX is running?  I'm going to try to set up connection between laptops and see if it works.  I'll let you know, but in the meantime if you can paste typical log files so I can compare maybe I can figure this out.

From a session yesterday (laptop downstairs connecting to an already started flight upstairs). The only change I've made to the default router and firewall settings is to reserve the IP addresses of the PCs. No opened ports or other faffing. Win7/64 at both ends. Network is cabled, with a Netgear 8-port gigabit ethernet switch both upstairs and downstairs (so the connection is via two switches).

So it looks like the router is not allowing traffic on that port to pass through on the internal network, but it will pass outside the network.  Any clues?

Can you also post the Simconnect.xml files from the two FS PCs?
Thanks

I am still experiencing difficulties getting Plan-G to connect through a network. It eventually works bit takes many tries and a complete re-boot of both machines. The best recipe to make it work seems to re-boot both machines. Click on "Network" on each computer to connect them. Start FSX, and get into flight mode. Then start Plan-G. It never connects on my first try so I and get the timeout message. Then I turn off the airplane starter engine ( I have a Saitek mutli-panel switch). Plan-G gives me a message that it's no longer working and is forced to shut down. I reopen Plan-G and then and only then (with some luck) is connects. If I don't go through this procedure it doesn't work at all.

My connections settings are good and so is the syntax in the Sim Connect.xml - After all it does work when it wants to. I use IPv6 and have W7 on both machines. I was wondering if the option of using IPv4 or FSUIPC may solve the problem.

This software is an absolute pleasure - when it connects - and I would certainly have made a donation to reward the efforts of the author. But I am on a holding pattern...I am still wasting at least 45 minutes before the whole setup works.

I am a fair computer user but my networks knowledge is rather limited. I have dutifully followed the instructions provided. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The numbers look okay. I think we have to explore the possibility that something external (firewall, AV etc ) is blocking it.

Cavalier,
I can't imagine why switching the engines on or off should make the slightest difference. Did you try the things suggested in your other thread? If so what was the result? You stated that your LAN IP addresses were assigned externally by your cable provider. This is definitely a very strange way of going about things, and I can't help but wonder if it has something to do with the problem (I wonder what else they are doing to your network...).

Tim. @TimArnot
