Tried to do a search of the following error, but could not find a specific answer. Using a laptop with Windows Vista to connect to my game machine Windows 7 64 bit. When I attempt to connect Plan G I get the following log error "SimConnect Connect failed: BeatlesBlog.SimConnect.SimConnect+SimConnectException: Pipe Connection Failed ---> System.TimeoutException: The operation has timed out.
   at System.IO.Pipes.NamedPipeClientStream.Connect(Int32 timeout)
   at BeatlesBlog.SimConnect.SimConnect.Networking.Connect()
--- End of inner exception stack trace ---
   at BeatlesBlog.SimConnect.SimConnect.Networking.Connect()
   at BeatlesBlog.SimConnect.SimConnect.OpenCommon(String strAppName)
at BeatlesBlog.SimConnect.SimConnect.Open(String strAppName, String strHostName, String strPipeName)
at FS._SimConnect.Connect()"  Any help would be much appreciated.

(ED: Check the sticky at the top of this forum. If that doesn't'help, read on.)

I had the same problem and used the instructions in Dave Weese's package
(http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=151797) to check my setup.
It's intended for using Simconnect to connect to Squawkbox but I assume the principle is the same.
It'll certainly help you check whether your network is set up correctly.

Dave's instructions run to six pages, so here's a summary you might find useful:

Ensure the PCs are networked and have the same Workgroup Name (Control Panel -> System). (Windows 7 users will find configuring a homegroup network environment useful.)

On the FS PC
1.   Give the PC a static address within windows (recommended).
2.   Share the following folders with full read and write permissions.
C:\Users[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX
C:\Users\[username]\My Documents\Flight Simulator X Files
X:\Microsft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X (your FSX folder)
3.   Restart both PCs to clear their connection to the router and each other.
4.   Check access to the shared folders by using the client PC to create a text file in each of the shared folders on the FS PC. Check that you can save, edit and delete each file.
You may need to open your firewall up to allow the non-FS PC to access the folders; this may require you to set a static IP address for the non-FS computer as well.
5.   Copy the file SimConnect.ini from the package to:
C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Flight Simulator X Files\SimConnect.ini
6.   Copy the file SimConnect.xml in the package to
C:\Users[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX \SimConnect.xml
7.   Using Notepad, in the line <Address>000.000.000.000</Address> replace the zeros with the FS PC's static IP address. If you use ActiveSky, repeat this for the second address line.

On the non-FS PC
1.   Assign a static IP address (recommended).
2.   Copy the SimConnect.cfg file from the package to
C:\Users\[username]\Documents\SimConnect.cfg
3.   Using Notepad, in the line <Address>000.000.000.000</Address> replace the zeros with the same FS static IP address as before (not the address of this non-FS PC). If you use ActiveSky, repeat this for the second address line.

(Here, I continued to follow Dave Weese's instructions to install Simconnect by using the Squawkbox 4 installation package. I haven't tried installing it by itself...)
On both PCs
Install SB4, selecting the option 'This computer will run FS only' or 'This computer will run SB only'. On the client PC, you are then prompted to set up Simconnect.

So this isn't the official approach for getting Simconnect to work with Plan-G, but it should help you to check your setup.

Cheers
Geoff

Thanks, will give it a go tomorrow. I know the network is correct. Plan G is able to create the data base without any problem. I just get the error when using the connect to FSX button  in Plan G.
