How does the program calculate suggested altitude for a flight plan?

tim arnot

Off the top of my head, i think it's something like Max elevation adjusted up to the nearest 100 + 1000ft + 1000ft for every 20 minutes flight time, then adjusted up to the nearest semicircular/quadrantal altitude if > 3000ft agl. There's a nominal cap at around 12000ft as you'd need supplemental oxygen above that, and its rare that you'd want to fly higher VFR (I think the cap does not apply if you're IFR)

Didn't think of this until now, Tim but on V3.50, IFR flights - I get no suggested altitude at all. Meaning, in V2, when I clicked on Altitude on the menu bar, an alt was filled in but in V3.50 it is 0. Not a big deal.
