Over the past few weeks, Mapquest has been making substantial changes to its tile data. Of most significance to us here is the addition of terrain shading. Currently this only goes up to zoom level 9, but maybe we'll see it at higher zoom levels too.

In order to see terrain shading, go into Options / General, and set the provider to Mapquest OSM. If this was already your provider, you may need to clear the tile cache and restart Plan-G, otherwise you may still see old tiles.

Yepp, I found it out by chance a bit over a week ago. It looked like work in progress to me as there was just a big portion of the northern US covered and now it looks quite complete (till zoom level 9, indeed). Before I used the OpenCycle.map but this one does not really looks like a relief. Both maps are somehow complementary as the latter starts to become better when zooming in even if Google still gives the better overall impression. When looking for possible scenic spots and potentially interesting airports I still prefer version 2 for rough planning. Furthermore this version is useful when searching the satellite pictures for the real airports (which might be even not existing sometimes) in order to fix those bugs in FS.
