Hello forum,

I installed Plan G about an hour ago and I have met a few issues that seem odd.

I tried loading an existing FSX flight-plan I'd flown a few weeks back into my new Plan G. I convinced it to search for '*.pln' files instead of '*.plg' files and loaded 'ENCN_ESOK_BK3' to take the default King Air 350 from Norway to Sweden. But all it loaded was my departure airport, ENCN Kjevik. There were no waypoints or arrivals airport. Isn't it supposed to load it all?

And the other problem? I went into File/Options/Sound and tried to load a sound sample for 'Minimums', loading a .wav file from FSX/Sound/GPWS but each time I clicked 'Open' Plan G just quit with 'Plan_G3 has stopped working. A problem caused......'. I tried loading the same .wav file into WMP and it plays properly. I have tried with different .wav files and Plan G quits with those too.

More info = I run FSX (SP1 & 2) on a desktop with Windoze 7. Plan G is v3.0.0.46 running on the same PC.

Firstly, please download and install the current version (3.0.7.71) - you may well find the plan issue has been fixed (please report back if it hasn't; I'll ask you for the .pln file) You can find it here: http://www.tasoftware.co.uk

Secondly, I've had no other reports of issues with .wav files, but I'll look into it.

If you only recently downloaded that rather old version of Plan-G, and you got it from another site, please tell me where it came from - no other sites are authorised to distribute this program. Thanks. (if it's been lying around on your hard drive for a while, no problem. I'm just concerned that someone might be distributing out of date software)

Hiya Tim and Forum.

I've had a look @ the file I downloaded. It was dated 2nd Nov, 2013 and downloaded from here;
http://plan-g.software.informer.com/3.0/
with it having 'plan-g' in the URL I assumed it was the official site.

I have downloaded the new version from your link and have installed it. Right now it is building it's database which takes a long time.... so I'm typing very slowly. Using my old version, I think the problem was VAVET. FSX knows where VAVET was. It was the end of the SID and my first waypoint. FSCommander knew where it was (building it's database from FSX) but Plan-G was unable to find it (despite building it's database from the same FSX information).

So here's the update. Plan-G has created it's database and loaded my flightplan (ENCN_ESOK_BK3) perfectly. It also loads my helicopter trip EGLW_EGXC_AS350 perfectly too. Looks like this problem is now resolved.

However, trying to load a .wav file for 'minimums' still causes Plan-G to quit, as soon as I click 'Open'. After my blood donor trip today I intend to install Plan-G onto my laptop. Then we'll know whether the problem is just some stupid quirk on my desktop PC. Or not.

Thanx for all your help.

Just a small update.

I've installed Plan-G onto my laptop too now. And, once again, loading a .wav file into 'Options/Sound/Minimums' still causes Plan-G to crash as soon as I click on 'Open'. I don't think this is such a big problem and I can live without this 'feature' to be honest but it just strikes me as being kinda odd.

DaftBrit,

I tried it too and get the same problem as you when I use Browse and then select a .wav file.

When I paste (or type) the complete file spec in the file space for minimums it works fine without PLAN-G stopping. So for the time being here is your work-around.

Tim, looks like the problem is with selecting the .wav file with the Browse.

Can I ask what is the path to your wav file? And also, have either of you moved the location of your "My Documents" folder? (That has caused problems in the past)

Does the program crash before the file selector appears or after you've selected the wav?

As a temporary solution, you can directly set the wav file in the config. Please refer to the read me file for the config file location. I don't recall the name of the variable off the top of my head, but they are all reasonably self-explanatory. Do not edit the config while the program is running, or you will lose your changes. If you screw it up, just restore your backup (or delete the config file, and Plan-G will create a new one).

Hiya Tim;

The 'Browse'  function appears to work fine until clicking 'Open', then Plan-G quits with the error msg. I did what Dempsey suggested and typed the full path into the box and it all works fine now. Typing ( and ) proved to be interesting because this opens another window LOL. The path is;
C:\Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X/Sound/GPWS/Minimums.wav

I did notice that, before the earlier error the path in the box only said 'Minimums' and not the full path. Maybe this produces the error.

'My Documents', on my FSX machine, is situated @;
C:/Users/Stan/My Documents
That folder contains folders of 'Flight Simulator X Files' and 'Plan-G Files'.

Incidentally, I used Plan-G during a IFR flight YPTN to YPDN with the company's C208B and have already decided NEVER to fly without it! When flying IFR with smaller aircraft, no other program is as useful as this. FSCommander comes close, but not quite as useful as Plan-G. When I landed in Darwin I tried to get an Aerodrome picture but somehow this didn't work. Mebbe more reading of the manual is required.

I'm looking fwd to tonight's flight out of Darwin and, am particularly looking fwd to an authorative voice declaring 'Minimums' instead of determining my height above the ground by the volume levels of the screams of my passengers.  :laugh:

There are some new options coming soon with regard to aerodrome diagrams, so stay tuned. :)

I find the screams of the passengers reassuring, that they didn't already leave the aircraft...  :o

Tim,

The MyDocuments directory is in the same place as when Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit, was installed a few years ago. Pasting in the file name works fine.
