Hey folks,
FIrst off . . . what an awesome program. Can't believe its free!
Hoping that someone can help. Trying to connect two Win7 machines. Have followed the directions in the PDF, but I keep getting error messages. Have tried IPv4 and IPv6 type connection scenarios. Have redone the SimConnect .xml file many many times, but still no luck. Anyone with some suggestions ,or possibly  code to copy to make the connection happen? Thanks

tim arnot

Could you post your log file (Plan-G_Log.txt) and a copy of the Simconnect.xml? thanks.

Tim. @TimArnot

Robert Browne

Check the default port number against the port number in your SimConnect file these might be different ie 4504 (deafualt port) or 4506 written in SimConnect File.

sbesedick

Here is the text from the xml file . . .

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>
<SimBase.Document Type="SimConnect" version="1,0">
<Descr>SimConnect Server Configuration</Descr>
<Filename>SimConnect.xml</Filename>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<SimConnect.Comm>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<Protocol>IPv4</Protocol>
<Scope>global</Scope>
<MaxClients>64</MaxClients>
<Address>10.0.1.15</Address>
<Port>4504</Port>
</SimConnect.Comm>

I made sure that the protocol and port numbers were identical in Plan-G.
The log file you requested is next . . .

I tried both IPv6 and IPv4 settings suggested in the PDF. The error message that I got in Plan-G was  "unable to connect to remote Flight Simulator (timeout). Check FSX is running (it was), and that your protocol settings are correct (I thought they were). Both machines were using Win7 Home premium.

tim arnot

Your XML is set to address 10.0.1.15

Your Plan-G is attempting to connect to address 10.0.1.6

Make sure they poth say the same address, and that it is the address of the PC runnumg FSX.

Tim. @TimArnot

sbesedick

yes . . . I saw that too, but this was simply an error on my part with regards sending you what was really consistent data on both client and server. I always made sure that the protocol ,ip address, and port number were the same. It is interesting that I can ping with no errors from both client and server (FSX machine), and both machines are "self-discovered" with regards Home networks. I have placed the SimConnect file in the following directory path . . .. Users/Steve/Appdata/Roaming/Microsoft/Fsx. I have tried making the SimConnect file both a text file and an xml file (i.e.,SimConnect.xml, where the file is labled as an XML file type, or SimConnect.xml,where the file is identified as a text file). Either way, I get the same error stating that FSX has timed out, and to make sure that FSX is running and that the protocols are correct. I have gone through the procedures for connection many many times, but cannot get past this error message. Perhaps you could pass on the code used for the SimConnect file that you have seen work in Win7. Any assistance in getting this connection to work would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Both PCs are running Windows 7 64bit. You'll see that if you have both IP address and PC Name in the xml, you can actually connect to either

Is your SimConnect file seen as a text file, or an XML file?
