FSX freeze after several minutes (variable) connexion with Plan-G

Hello,

I am a new user and I am facing a (possible) installation problem.
I carefully followed installation instructions and have READ the user's guide (with a special attention to the connectivity chapters)

Plan-G stand alone works as expected.
The exported Fligh Plan is correctly loaded in FSX (I add a descrepency on the position of a waypoint between the two, but that's another problem I may describe latter if you want).

I made several test

1 - connection via SimConnect - Plan-G is VERY slow to respond to any mouse click (Windows complaining that it is "not responding" during at least 15s). During the flight (after several minutes) FSX freeze (same "not responding" from Windows and never comes back (no activity according to task manager).

2 - connection via FSUIPC 4 - Plan-G is really responsive when connected to FSX. Nevertheless, I have still the problem of FSX freezing during the flight (same as above).

3 - when Plan-G is NOT connected, FSX follows the Flight plan succesfully.

Let me know any information you would need.

Any clue greatly appreciated !

Attached Plan-G log file (one of the trials with SFUIPC)

My configuration
Single PC
Windows 7 64 bits - 8Go - I5-4690K - GeForce GTX 760
FSX acceleration installed on F:\ (SSD) - DX10 preview with DX10SceneryFixer - FTXGLOBAL demo ICELAND (used for the Flight Plan)
Plan-G installed on P:\

Do you have FSX and Plan-G at the same security level? (i.e. both set to run as administrator, or both set as not)
The only other thing that comes to mind is that antivirus or firewall settings may be interfering.
The PC is certainly more than capable of running both together.

>> Do you have FSX and Plan-G at the same security level? (i.e. both set to run as administrator, or both set as not)

Yes - both were installed with admin rights (thanks to MS!!) but running under standard user login

>> The only other thing that comes to mind is that antivirus or firewall settings may be interfering.
That's unlikely. The freeze would not be after an unpredictable duration of the flight.

Any trace I could setup that would help to focus on the origin?

>> The PC is certainly more than capable of running both together.
I do agree  :)

Apart from the temporary freezes I am still investigating (more on this topic latter), I have several questions (I have read the manual, but not found help in these points)

I - I have set up a plan in Iceland within the FTX GLOBAL ICELAND demo.
-- Plan-G sees the waypoint THORI inside the island,
-- in the Flight Plan exported, FSX positions it in the sea, more than 700 Nm at Est
Is not Plan-g supposed to use the FSX databases ? I have set up the Scenery directory to "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX" as mentionned in the manual. Is it correct (and sufficient ?).
(And, yes, I have checked that the scenery is active...).

II - I have taken a look to the log file of Plan-G (for investigation on the freeze problem).
The log file is never cleaned and continues to grow. Any option to erase it at startup of Plan-G ?
And I have 28332 times the following lines in the log file for ONE flight (one hour approx.) - is it normal ??

My profile is for a Jet plane (Dassault Falcon 50) - I could not provide this information as the corresponding part of the profile screen is hidden when the Jet option is selected...

  19:41:42.3 Profile: ClimbRate = 0 ClimbSpeed = 0 Fuel = 0
  19:41:42.3 TOC: Time = 0 Distance = 0 Fuel = 0
  19:41:42.3 Profile: DescentRate = 0 DescentSpeed = 0 Fuel = 0
  19:41:42.3 TOD: Time = 0 Distance = 0 Fuel = 0
19:41:42.3 ECON Cruise: Time = Non Numérique Fuel = Non Numérique
19:41:42.3 PERF Cruise: Time = Non Numérique Fuel = Non Numérique
  19:41:42.3 DrawFlightplanMarker: False

I have the same information at the bottom of the Flight Plan dialog.

After having manually entered theses values in the profile file, I have no more ECON and PERF "Non Numérique Fuel = Non Numérique".
I still have to confirm, but it seams to solve the freeze problem (I need more checking)

III - After suppressing the bad waypoint in order to get the same flight in FSX and Plan-G, during the flight I have a discrepency between the RMI and GPS views in FSX and the PFD view in Plan-G.
- The course deviation indicator of Plan-G shows an important deviation BUT Plan-G map shows a perfect fit with the planned itinerary,
- RMI and GPS in FSX don't show any deviation,
- The deviation on Plan-G CDI decrease as we approach the waypoint.
(see attached print screen)

Nota : all test are done under admin user and with direct pipe connexion to FSX .

Thanks for your help - Gérard

I'll create a plan that uses THORI tonight and see what I can find out.

The log file should be recreated every day, maybe there's something preventing this? Anyhow it's safe to delete it at any time.

I'll investigate the jet profile issue.

Hello,

I am continuing my tests : I have un-installed and reinstalled Plan-G. I have marked the program "execute with admin right" (this one escaped me last time...).
Now I am running under standard user login.

I have changed the flight area to somewhere I only have the native FSX scenery.

I still have freezes, but now with the sound (as described on various forum), when I am connected with Plan-G. I don't have any problem with same flight plan with ONLY FSX running.

The log file of Plan-G is different...

On the previous fligths, I found in SimConnect log exceptions

    SIMCONNECT_EXCEPTION_WEATHER_UNABLE_TO_GET_OBSERVATION

During the last trial, there was NO EXCEPTION from SimConnect and NO "Profile: ClimbRate" etc... in Plan-G log.

I am not sure if this information is helpfull...

I am VERY sad to not succeed to use Plan-G connected to FSX, but I am still trying to find a solution.

Thanks for your attention.

I just made a test : Plan-G  without any flight plan loaded but connected to FSX using the habitual flight plan.

No freeze and quasi no cpu load by Plan-G (between 0 and 0.4%), with a perfect flight trace on the map.
When the flight plan is also loaded in Plan-G the cpu load is 8 to 9% (of a I5-4690K). Is this cpu load usual ? Could it cause the FSX freeze ?
FSX cpu load is between 60 to 95% with some very short picks at 100% (but FPS remains at 30 stable).

Plan-G raised at 16 to 20% when synchronisation with FSX is facing problems.

Good night - Gerard

Still investigating, I tried to change the user aircraft update frequency from 1 to 5 (disconnecting and reconnecting FSX), when the flight plan is loaded in Plan-G.
I do not see any significant change in the CPU load (always about 6 to 9 %)
Setting the frequency to zero even increase this value...

I also looked in the log and realized that the very numerous events "Profile: ClimbRate =  etc" occurs about 5500 times in 11 minutes, which means more than 8 times per second.
I wonders why these values, which are displayed in the bottom part of the Flight Plan window are traced so frequently.

To check the possible impact of the sc_OnRecvSimobjectweatherObservation FlightPlanWeather, I disabled the two weather options "When connected to FSX" - the CPU usage is now 1.5% medium and never exceeds 3.5 %.
I had activated these options at the installation of Plan-G and never thought before they could have this impact !

The 6 lines "Profile: ClimbRate =  etc" occur now 2 times per second, which is still a high figure...

At last l finsh this one hour ten minutes flight with both FSX and Plan-G.   :)

Hope these informations help.

Gérard

gaab

I just installed FSX Global + Vector + OpenLC Europ.

Thori (see my second post) is now on the same spot (coorectly placed inside Iceland) on both Plan-G and FSX.
Just for your information..

Any suggestion for the weather options problem ?

Thanks.
