How do I get the Plan Elevation box to work?

Once you have defined a flight plan then you watch the elevations for the flight plan via View -> Plan Elevation.

However, if you mean that you don't see any elevation then you have to manually "install" the map elevations first:

• Go to https://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/topo/gltiles.html and download the elevation tiles you need; e.g. as .zip files (a10g.zip, etc.)
• Unzip those files into the directory: <user-name>/My Documents/Plan-G Files/DEM/  (e.g. a10g, b10g, etc.)
• Start Plan-G and you should be back in business.

Do I have to do that every time I file a new flight plan?

You only need to install them once.
