So we have a new simulator and a whole lot of new challenges

FSDreamteam have just mudied the waters by implenting LM's recommended procedure for adding scenery and other addons.
This is nothing new, this method been around since P3Dv3 and everyone happily ignored it.

The big change is that sceneries are not added to the scenery.cfg, instead they are 'discovered' by means of an addon.xml

In practice this means any third party application that needs to harvest scenery bgl data has a problem.

Some examples

MakeRunways - used by a number or 3rd parts apps including RAAS
Aivlasoft EFB
and of course Plan-G

I know that Pete Dowson is working on something, and Aivlasoft are also investigating

FSDreamteam found a way of combining the data which they store in their own unified scenery.cfg file

Interesting times

Ah, another challenge! I should have P3Dv4 by the end of the month, so it can go on the list of things to investigate . . .

Thanks :)

This is a freeware tool that will create a dummy scenery.cfg that can be read by other programs. I believe Pete is using this method. Of course, it requires that the user have this installed along with PlanG.
