Unusual Crash

Have just started using Plan-G and so far it looks great.   All the hard work very much appreciated. :D

Actually have a couple of problems.

First one is bit unusual, I think.  This is what is happening.

I load FSX  or Plan-G   -    Problem happens no matter which one I load first.
So, both programs are loaded.
This problem happens whether I connect or do not connect to FSX.

Now if I try and shut down Plan-G I get a crash to reboot.
However, if I shut down FSX first, then shut down Plan-G, it does not crash.

The error message in the Event View/System is as follows:

Generate Activation Context failed for C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Modules\FSUIPC4.dll. Reference error message: The operation completed successfully.

Just thought I would bring this up as obviously I can shut down FSX first and not have a problem.

I hate to bring up this next problem, but here goes.

SimConnect
Can't seem to get it connected.   I know it is is installed and working as I use "Object Placement Tool" in the flight sim.  However the error message in the Event Viewer is as follows:

Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect. Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.

I really didn't want to reinstall SimConnect again and go through all the work of getting "Object Placement Tool" to work again.

I can connect with FSUIPC4, however I was hoping to network my laptop to my desktop and run Plan-G on the laptop.    It looks to be a lot more complicated to do this with FSUIPC.
I was just hoping someone might have a couple of ideas to cure this one.

Unfortunately I am not computer literate.   Even computers for Dummies is over my head.

Irvin

PS.   Re SimConnect.
I have IPv6 installed.   When I try and connect with it Plan-G looks like it is going to work but then gives me an error as follows:
Unable to connect to remote simulator.  Time Out.

I've never heard of that 'Activation Context' craqsh before. Is this the registered version of FSUIPC? What happens if you remove the FSUIPC key file? (ie make it unregistered)

SimConnect: What version of FSX are you running? For Simconnect in Plan-G you must be using SP2/Acceleration. Also, what values have you specified in the Connection dialog?

Finally, in context of your last comment, are you doing all this locally or across the LAN?

Tim. @TimArnot

GOLF

Both the FSX and Plan-G are on the same computer.

FSUIPC4 is not a registered version.    I just removed it from the sim and had the same problem with Plan-G.
When the computer crashes there is a whole blue page message that flashes for a second.    Don't have time to read it before it is gone.

Also found this in the event recorder:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x1000008e (0xc0000005, 0xbf0f6db2, 0xb4d73474, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini121709-02.dmp.

As for SimConnect guess the version of FSX could be the problem.  I only have SP1 installed.   I do have some port overs (Shupe's planes) that I really like and thought I would probably loose them with SP2/Acceleration.

Below is part of the Plan-G log:

Go into the FC Connection dialog and make sure you select FSUIPC as the connection mode (*not* Auto or Simconnect). It could be the attempt to connect via Simconnect when you only have SP1 that's causing the problem.

Plan-G will not connect to SP1 Simconnect.

'BeatlesBlog' is a Simconnect Client library by Tim Gregson (the original author of Simconnect, and instrumental in the recent MS-LockMart deal), which eliminates much of the horrid faffing about when connecting across a LAN, and makes things *much* simpler from a managed programming POV. It does however require SP2.

Thanks for the info.
Guess I will have to bite the bullet and install SP2 and see what happens.
I guess if I don't like the sim that way I can always reinstall it.
Thanks again.

Try the FSUIPC setting first - others are using SP1 that way with no trouble...
