Is this in 164? You cut the version number out of the log.

Oups
Yes it's in 164

It's throwing a different error, and looks like it's having general problems.
Try deleting the database file (D:\Eigene Dateien\Eigene Programmdateien\Plan-G Files\Data\PlanG3_XPX.sdf) and rebooting before having another go.
Exactly the same, the database is too big (256MB and then the generation crashes). New log is in the attachment.

Ok let's look at another possibility. Since this only happens to a few people, we should consider that maybe there's something about the data. Do either of you have scenery addons installed? Or updated data sets (e.g. from Navigraph)?

If so, what?
And please try building the database without them.

Good Day,

I'm hoping someone can provide some incite into this issue I am having with utilizing Plan-G and X-Plane 11.

I appear to be able to build the X-Plane 11 Database, however this does not activate the button in the data tab "Display X-Plane 9/10/11 Data" and thus limiting my use of the software as I am stuck at the "First" step

I have attached a copy of Plan-G_Log.txt

Further Details:
I have attempted this on the following versions, with the same result:

  • Plan-G_3.2.1.151
  • Plan-G_3.2.2.164 (Current Version in Log File)
I have also installed SQL Server Compact which was recommended in another post. https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/confirmation.aspx?id=5783

I noticed in the Log File it states that there is not enough disk space. I currently have 32.4 GB in free space. The PlanG3_XPX.sdf file is 262,356 KB in size. Do I have too much custom scenery in my X-Plane installation perhaps?

Other Specs:

  • Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit
  • RAM: 4 GB
  • Intel i5-3317U @ 1.70 GHz
  • This is a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet, the intent is to use this as a secondary device and networked to my actual X-Plane Computer

Please can you build the database and then *immediately* (or at least before midnight) upload the log file. Plan-G is a bit like a mogwai, and if you feed it after midnight it forgets what happened the day before (ie, the logs get wiped at midnight). Unfortunately the log you uploaded had already been wiped.

Also, can you say what (if any) scenery addons you have installed. I'm currently veering towards thinking this issue is caused by an Addon, and consequently trying to determine what is common amongst those that get the problem.

Finally, the error has nothing to do with how much spare disk space you have. Its also something I've never been able to reproduce, which makes it very hard to track down.

@tim arnot
No, this is my test installation without any scenery addons (only a few libraries without Earth nav data folder). Also no Navigraph or something like that. This is X-Plane how you get it.

Halo_Canuck

Thank you for your quick response!

I have attached 2 files. The Plan-G Log, as well as my scenery_packs.ini which lists all of the custom scenery I am using. Most of it is disabled, but still exist in the custom scenery folder.

If there is any additional information I can provide, let me know.

Thanks,
Hank

How big is your PlanG3_XPX.sdf? Bigger than 256MB?

I think this is an interesting line:
Quote16:58:09.5 Write Intersection 13 : The database file is larger than the configured maximum database size. This setting takes effect on the first concurrent database connection only. [ Required Max Database Size (in MB; 0 if unknown) = 257 ]

I got this error message already 2 years ago:

Max database size is set to 4000 (4GB) - that's visible in the log, in the connection string. Something is causing the database to grow beyond that. But we don't know what. My database is around 226MB. I've used the default data, and data from a recent Navigraph set, with no difference. But I don't have any scenery addons.

You're welcome to a copy of my database (built last night): https://www.dropbox.com/s/7g46c71cw4mnb42/PlanG3_XPX.zip?dl=0

Hmm. So we're back to finding common conditions...

My X-Plane is default, although possibly not the latest. I can run an update on it and see if that makes a difference. I do have a more recent Navigraph data set, but switching it in or out still builds successfully.

I've merged these two topics, since they are the same issue.

I think this will make the difference, because your database will grow up to 256MB+. Until 11.36 it's less than 256MB. With 226MB I think you have 11.26.

You mentioned some time ago that not everyone has this issue. I think that's because they've not build the database with 11.40 and in former times didn't have much scenery addons. It would be interesting if someone could make a successful build with 11.40 data.

Maybe this help:
https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/sqlblog/2009/07/14/dealing-with-very-large-sql-compact-database-files/
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/2408480/increase-the-size-of-sql-compact-3-5-sdf-file-using-c-sharp
https://www.nopcommerce.com/boards/topic/38219/error-the-database-file-is-larger-than-the-configured-maximum-database-size-this-setting-takes-effec

Maybe a smaller max. size like 1024MB (should be enough) or 0 could help. But let's see if you can reproduce the issue after updating to 11.40.

P.S.: I've installed SQL Server 3.5 Compact SP2 Runtime.

tim arnot

Yup, builds fine with 11.40. The database size has increased to 235MB. (attached)

(and yes I have scoured ever document google throws up on this issue, many, many times)

Square 1 approaches. The question is still why does it fail for some people but not for others.

I'm really surprised, expected much more. Do you have SQL Server installed on your PC?
If you have a VM without SQL Server and such things, could you try again there? It's a very strange issue.
