Hi Tim,

After trying everything I could think of, I finally decided to completely uninstall Plan-G (all versions I had), delete its folder & files and re-install v.3.2.1.151.

Result: it no longer keeps freezing and reacts normally to my inputs.

Thanks for your great program and all the help you give to us .

Mark

Hi Tim,

Sorry to say I'm still having my original problem with Plan-G v. 3.2.1.151 once again freezing and taking upwards of a minute to respond to my inputs, (e.g. Clicking on 'Connect', changing the position of the aircraft, or the range) causes the 'Plan Elevation', 'Information' & 'Flight Plan' windows to go blank. Sometimes the whole screen blanks.

As I said in my previous posting, I had completely un-installed and re-installed the program and I have done this again (a couple of times) with no change in its stability.

I am wondering if this behaviour is connected to my use of Ultimate Traffic, which produces icons of many AI aircraft on the Plan-G window if in the vicinity of a large airport. But even when flying out in the 'boonies" where only a few AI aircraft are to be seen, the freezing takes place.

This is very frustrating, as I really love Plan-G (when it's behaving!). On long flights it's invaluable to be able to see where I am located, so I'd be very grateful if you wold be kind enough to suggest what you think the cause of my problem is.

I'm pretty certain it isn't due  to restrictions due to inadequate computing power or memory, as Windows Task Manager shows that plenty of both are available.

I've tried disabling Ultimate Traffic and all Traffic in P3D-Options-Settings-Traffic to see if this improves matters, but it doesn't.

Meanwhile, my best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Mark

I don't have Ultimate traffic, so I can't say if it's a factor, but I know other people who use it and they's never reported a problem. Also if you've tried disabling it, that suggests it isn't.

I need to ask some questions:
1. Is Plan-G running on a networked PC, or on the same PC as P3D?
2. If it's on the same PC, does it intersect with or otherwise obscure the simulator window?
3. Have you updated to the most recent version of P3D (4.4), and did this make a difference?
4. How does Plan-G connect to the sim (Simconnect(FSX) / Simconnect(P3D) / FSUIPC)?

The most likely reasons for the program slowing down after connecting to the sim are vast quantities of data being transmitted (for example large quantities of AI), or too high a refresh rate, or a combination of the two.

Could you please run the connection for a few minutes and then attach the Plan-G log file here? Delete the existing log before you start the session to remove any extraneous information. Thanks.

Hi Tim,

Sorry but I can't find the .log file anywhere.

Have looked in Plan-G's main folder, in C:\ProgramData and in AppData\Roaming but it isn't there...

To answer your questions:-

1. Plan-G is running on the same PC as P3D.
2. It does not intersect or obscure the sim. Both programs are in full-screen mode and I switch between them with Alt-Tab as required.
3. I am still using P3D v.3.4.18. No immediate plans to update to v.4
4. The connection is via SimConnect (P3D), but I have tried FSUIPC with no different results. The SimConnect Settings (P3D) are set at Config Index: 0. What would be the result of changing this value?

I have tried reducing all Aviation Traffic and Land & Sea Traffic to zero but Plan-G still takes a good minute to re-display after I input a change e.g. move the aircraft or change the range. Just before re-displaying, the entire window blanks out and then flickers rapidly for several seconds before stabilising at the new setting.

As for the refresh rate, do you mean it of P3D? And, if so, how do I measure it and change it?

Hi Tim,

Finally found the log file.
I had been searching for a file with the extension '.log' and over 8000 turned up but none were relevant...
It's attached to this posting.

I'm seeing traffic updates every 30 seconds, which is pretty normal, and just 2 planes. Nothing there that should slow things down. Connection was by FSUIPC, flight plan Toronto to Regina.

Not sure the impact of running both programs full screen (what is the size/resolution of your screen?) I'll try that here and see what happens...

Screen resolution is 1920 x 1080.

Video card is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960.

Hi Tim.
Following up on getting XPUIPC running on client laptop. As far as I can see permissions on laptop and desktop give access to 'everyone'. How can I check whether XPUIPC is running on the laptop - is there something I must do to start/open the programme?

You must run XPWideClient on the laptop - it doesn't start automatically.
