Need Dummies guide for Plan G on a network

OK, I have read the manual but I must be missing something. I have FSX set up on my desktop running Windows 7 and have a laptop with Plan G and Windows XP. For the life of me I cannot get them to talk to each other. I was wondering if anyone out there had a similar setup would post a step by step guide on how to get Plan g up and running. I know it might be a big ask but I would really appreciate it if someone could help this old fella out.

1. On your FSX PC

Click on Start
Right-Click on Network
Click on Properties.

This will open up the Network and Sharing Center. In this dialog, about a third down, on the right You should see 'Connections: Local Area Connection'. Click on it.

This brings up the Local Area Connection Status dialog. Click on the Details button.

This now brings up the Network Connection Details dialog. This lists all the network addresses etc. Find the entry for 'IPv4 Address' and write it down.

2. On the FSX PC

Referring to the manual, bottom of page 56/top of 57. Create the SimConnect.xml file as described. Use the IP address that you wrote down in setion 1 above.

3. On the Plan-G PC.

Referring to the manual, bottom of page 59, section 10.2.4, configure the connection dialog as shown. Use the IP address you wrote down above.

That's it. You should now be able to run FSX and connect to it.

Many thanks Tim, have configuted all that but when it comes to the locations tab, am I supposed to see the FSX computer? When I click on browse, My Network Places, am I suppose to see the FSX machine? Thanks.

The locations tab is only required if you need to build a database from the remote PC. It can be quite complicated to set up the shares of the FS PC for this, so it is usually easier to install on the FS PC, build the database and then copy it across to the laptop.
