Hi there Im using Windows 7 on my main PC (the one with FSX on) and Windows Vista on my Lappie (with Plan-G on) I have set the simconnect.xml as below (copied from manual and changed to my ip etc)

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>
<SimBase.Document Type="SimConnect" version="1,0">
<Descr>SimConnect</Descr>
<Filename>SimConnect.xml</Filename>
<SimConnect.Comm>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<Protocol>IPv6</Protocol>
<Scope>link-local</Scope>
<MaxClients>64</MaxClients>
<Address>fe80::6c8f:d09b:9b90:1e77</Address>
<Port>4506</Port>
</SimConnect.Comm>
</SimBase.Document>

Initially in Plan-G it says FSX (SimConnect), But then it just keeps timing out. with message saying
Unable to connect to remote flight simulator (timeout). Check FSX is running, and that your protocol settings are correct.

I have set my Plan-G connection settings as follows

Connect with - Simconnect
Network mode - IPv6
FSX Computer - fe80::6c8f:d09b:9b90:1e77
Serverport - 4506

As im no expert with PCs im pulling my hair out trying to figure out what im doing wrong.

Want to use Plan G as moving map on lappy as well as Flight planner as it is so cool. Thanks to Tim Arnot for such a great piece of software.

Kind regards
Rob Engvikson

Do you have firewalls, antivirus etc running? They could well block it.

Hi Tim

I have both Anti-Virus & Firewalls turned off, still not linking. I should point out, I am no expert with PC's so I may have not setup the Network properly. I have set the FSX folder to shared and have made it so I have to log on with a password to both PCs ( was that the right thing to do? )

I dont get an Aircraft icon, and it does not lock to my plane ( I have Lock option ticked, as Im guessing that it will lock to my plane as soon as it connects, letting me know I have it working.)

Sorry to be a pain
Kind regards
Rob

Sometimes PCs have more than one network adaptor. If that's the case, make sure you are using the ip for the one that'a actually connected. Also sometimes PCs will get assigned a different address when you switch it off and back on. You can fix that by reserving an address in the router (see your router's documentation). Failing that, try the IPv4 protocol (192.168....)

I cant for the life of me get this working and i know my way around pcs

right i have windows 7 running FSX

I have Plan G on a laptop running windows 7

the simconnect.xml file is in the same directory as FSX.CFG and goes like this

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>
<SimBase.Document Type="SimConnect" version="1,0">
<Descr>SimConnect</Descr>
<Filename>SimConnect.xml</Filename>
<SimConnect.Comm>
<Disabled>False</Disabled>
<Protocol>IPv6</Protocol>
<Scope>link-local</Scope>
<MaxClients>64</MaxClients>
<Address>fe80::c45:22c0:3f57:fffb</Address>
<Port>4506</Port>
</SimConnect.Comm>
</SimBase.Document>

on the laptop the connection is

Auto
IPv6
fe80::c45:22c0:3f57:fffb
4506

can anyone help please

no firewall or virus running

What error (if any) do you get in the log file?

The most obvious thing to check is that you've got the right address for the right PC and for the right adapter. For example, IPCONFIG lists three separate ipv6 link-local addresses for my PC -- one for the ethernet port, one for the wireless LAN connection and one for the 'Teredo tunneling pseudo-interface'.

It's also a common error to specify the ip for the laptop instead of the FS-PC.

Hi Tim,

This is most annoying -  I cant for the life of me get this working! I have tried ip6 and ip4 - the annoying thing is i got it working once and now it just does not want to work!

I have attached my log file - see if that explains any better than I!

If it used to work and now doesn't, the most likely thing is that your router has reassigned your IPs. Use IPConfig from a command prompt to check the current assignment.

Hi Tim

I have checked and triple checked the ip6 numbers and everything is the same! This is why I just don't understand! The ip's are definitely correct and the port number. it just refuses to connect

Thanks for your help

tim arnot

Firewall? AV? Permissions even?

Does the PC have more than one network socket? (& if so, is it plugged in to the right one -- each socket will have a different ip6 address). Also a WiFi connection will have a different ip6 address than a wired connection.

Also check IPv6 is turned on in the Network Properties dialog for that adapter

Hi Tim,

Thanks again for all your help. Still have issues though. I have stopped the anti virus on the FSX pc and ad aware, plus turned of the windows 7 firewall.

I am running Plan G on a laptop connected via ethernet. The laptop has no AV and windows 7 firewall turned off.

Interestingly (not sure if it matters) when i check the properties of the network adapter I can see the ip6 ip address which is correct on all systems - now if i delve deeper i find that it says

IPv4 Connectivity - Internet
IPv6 Connectivity - No Internet access

now does that matter - i have checked the protocols and ipv6 is enabled?

any ideas?

I don't think so -- mine says the same thing. I think it just means your router connection out to the Internet is not IP6 enabled.

Another user has posted that they had success by using the PC name rather than the IP address (e.g. "TIM_PC"). Worth a try?

Tim. @TimArnot

eddtr1

ok well the error message i am getting is

Unable to connect to remote Flight Simulator (timeout).
Check FSX is running, and that your protocol settings our correct

I have also tried using the network name for the FSX pc and that doesnt so anything either

Really at a loss here!

This is my new SimConnect.xml file - is it correct?

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="Windows-1252"?>
<SimBase.Document Type="SimConnect" version="1,0">
  <Descr>SimConnect Server Configuration</Descr>
  <Filename>SimConnect.xml</Filename>
  <Disabled>False</Disabled>
  <SimConnect.Comm>
    <Disabled>False</Disabled>
    <Protocol>IPv6</Protocol>
    <Scope>link-local</Scope>
    <MaxClients>64</MaxClients>
    <Address>fe80::491a:db39:82d1:8728</Address>
    <Port>4506</Port>
</SimConnect.Comm>
</SimBase.Document>

Thanks Tim!

tim arnot

As I've said to other people, there really are only four possibilities, Either
* the address is wrong
* the port is wrong
* the protocol is wrong
* it's being blocked

If you've double & triple checked the address/port/protocol, then the only other possibility is that something (firewall, av, router, cabling...) is blocking it.
