I'm using these two programs as I fly. Plan-G as a "moving map" and Air Manager to display a 2D panel in a secondary monitor. The problem is that both of them must be connected to Microsoft Flight Simulator at the same time. When I start Air Manager, it connects with no problems. But when I start Plan-G and connect to the simulator, Air Manager stops working. I asked in the air Manager forum, and it seems that nobody has an answer (Am I the only person in the world that uses both programs at the same time?). As I can't find a way for Air Manager to connect with MFS in a different way, I think the solution could be in Plan-G. I can see that it has several options for connecting with the simulator. I have default configuration: SimConnect 2 (FSX/MSFS) Network working mode: IPv4 FS Computer: localhost Server port/ pipe: 500 Any other configuration doesn't work. The question is: Can you tell me how can I configure it to connect with MFS in a different way? If I get Plan-G to connect via a different "address" or "port", then maybe Air Manager will work. Thanks! |

I’m not familiar with Air Manager, but it should definitely be possible to connect two apps to MSFS at the same time. The key is that if they’re both using SimConnect they should connect to different ports. The default settings are pretty much guaranteed to work for a single application - the aim is for simplicity. To do something more complex requires a little extra configuration. Simconnect is a two stage process: Plan-G needs to know the port (and IP if it’s networked) to connect to, and the sim also needs to know the same info. Both have to match or they will not connect. For the sim this information is in Simconnect.xml, and for Plan-G it’s in Simconnect.cig (“connection 1”) or the dialog (“connection 2”). Instructions and examples are in the Quick Start Guide. An alternative method is to use FSUIPC. This is a third party library by Pete Dawson, it has an advantage that it’s compatible with pretty much every simulator, although I think some parts of it are payware. |
