Is SP2 required to use the newest version?

Sorry if this has been asked already, but I can't seem to find the answer in posts or the FAQ's section. Many of my friends fly using SP1, so I also use SP1. Just wondering if SP2 is required or not. I'm still currently using V0.9.1.423. I like this version but I'm wanting to give the newest version a try.

SP2 is only required if you want to connect to FS via SimConnect. If you're happy to be standalone, or to use FSUIPC then you can use SP1.
